There is something very surreal about going for a walk in the rain. Wheneveryone else is all tucked up inside, trying to keep warm and dry.  He walked over the bridge and stood at the stream, watching the reflection of the moon ripple in the water. That's when he saw her for the first time. A young woman, with long blue hair, standing in the current. At first he thought she was in trouble, and so he ran to the bank, but she wasn't. She swayed her hand from side to side and where her hand went, the water seemed to follow, ebbing and flowing with her movements. He took a step forward, his foot slipping into the water with a 'splash'. She turned her head to him and then, in a panic, ran.

At first, he thought he'd dreamed the whole thing, afterall, he didn't know of any women with blue hair in the village. Blue hair is strange all by itself. But then he saw her again. A glimpse of blue hair blowing in the wind at the marketplace. He ran in the direction of the hair, thinking himself to be imagining it, yet there she was. She turned to look at him, her eyes brighter than her hair.

"I know you." She told him. He stepped closer to her. "You were there the other night. I recognise you because of your hair." She reached up and moved a strand of red hair from the man's forehead, putting it neatly back into place with the rest of it.

"I'm not following you!" He quickly blurted out. Her eye's closed as a smile appeared on her face and then she started to laugh. "I didn't think you were, silly." From that moment on, they were inseperable.

Many moons later, on the anniversary of their first meeting, the couple were chased out of the village. "Witchcraft!" The mob yelled, blaming the woman for everything that happened. But it wasn't her fault.

"Where did the fire even come from?" She asked her redheaded partner during the time of chaos. The man, of course, didn't know. It had just appeared. He'd gotten angry and suddenly the tavern was burning down and the woman had no choice but to put it out. The pair ran, getting as far away from the village as possible. Getting to places were no one they knew would ever dare to go. After what seemed like hours of running, they were finally safe.

The couple was happy, they were away from hate and from fear until one night.

The man walked home to find his loving bride sitting at the table, staring at the wood before her. He rushed to her side to check on her, knowing something was wrong.

"Darling?" he asked, taking her hand. The floor around her was soaking, but he knelt in it to be at her level as she turned to look at him.

"I'm pregnant." She told him. And that is when the complications started.

___

'Have you thought about this? I just don't think we'll be able to look after a baby.'
'What if they are like us?'
'It's twins.'
'I don't want these children growing up in a world that hates them.'
'Darling, they're making you sick.'
'Please let me look after you.'

Its too late....

___

Two beautiful baby girls were born, but at a price. As the man knelt by his beloved's body, holding his twin babies, he came to realise that he would no longer be able to hold her. He realised he would no longer watch her dance in the rain, or control the stream. He realised that he would no longer get to spend time with her, and that she wasn't coming back. And it was all these newborns fault. He placed them down on the ground, covered his bride in a blanket and went out for a walk.

Hours had passed and he still hadn't returned, the children were hungry and screaming their lungs out. Eventually the noise drew the attention of a passerby and they ran in, checking on the babies.

"You poor things," they said, soothing the crying. Glancing over, they saw the woman laid on the floor. Then they understood the situation and the babies were saved.
