As Gemi and Abigayle walked through an abandoned, old building, water dripped from the broken pipes. Abigayle stared at the water as it formed puddles on the floor. She pulled a face of disgust as she watched it. She hated water. She hated being wet. She hated the way that water always went back to being calm after something disturbed it. She felt it was the complete opposite to her. Abigayle felt like she could never be like that. She kicked the puddle under the pipes and found a place to sit. Gemi was sat down on a broken chair, spinning around childishly. She held a candle in her hand, which she kept setting alight and then playing with the flame.
"Want to go burn something down?" Abigayle asked the spirit, taking a seat on the floor next to her.
"Thats all we ever do." Gemi complained and whined. She distinguished the flame and looked at the teenager.
"Oh come on. You know you'll enjoy it." Abigayle took her hand gently and smiled. "We could burn down a hotel or a homeless shelter. Somewhere with a lot of people inside." She laughed.
"Fine." The spirit moaned.
The human race was not what Abigayle had expected it to be. No one was kind. The only way to get by in this world was to put up barriers so you couldn't be hurt. To do this, Abigayle had decided that the human race was just insects that she needed to crush, if she treated them like that, then she didn't have to think about how scared of everyone she was.
"Oh, I know..." She said, deciding what she wanted to burn down.
After a short while of walking, the duo stood in front of the place which Abigayle held the most bad memories, her old orphanage. She wanted to do this, but standing before the building, she began to get the feeling that something was going to go wrong. She pushed open the doors and walked in, with a rather bored Gemi trailing behind her. There was a lot of new kids. A pang of guilt filled Abigayle's heart. Then she noticed someone she knew sat at the table reading.
Growing up in the orphanage, Abigayle only really had one friend. A boy named Harry, who was a couple of years younger than her. They were inseparable. The two of them were the closest thing either of them had to family.
Abigayle began to feel sick. She reached for a chair as a tear formed in her eye. She started to feel dizzy.
"Harry" She stuttered. He looked up from his book and smiled at her.
"Abigayle, is that really you?" He was excited to see her. "I thought you got out of this place!" Abigayle clenched her fists. She knew this job was going to be a difficult one. Harry's ginger hair fell over his eyes as he stood up to hug the woman he saw as his older sister.
"You know you don't have to do this job, Abigayle." Gemi told her, clearly seeing her companion in a distressed state.
"I know. But we are. We just... Let's do it tomorrow." Abigayle responded. She wrote a note down quickly and gave it to Harry before leaving. On the way out, her and Gemi blew up a random building. The explosion echoed down the street as it went up in flames. Gemi giggled a little bit as they walked home.
As they walked through the doors into the old abandoned building they called home, Gemi suddenly let out a squeak of fear before vanishing back into the stars. There was a man stood in the room, facing away from Abigayle. He turned around to face her when he heard Gemi vanish.
"You, my dear, have a great power. Yet you use it for such destruction." He spoke, in a very calm voice. His hair colour matched Abigayle's, except it was styled a little bit like cat eats. He had brown eyes, which were scanning Abigayle as if trying to figure out what she was thinking.
"You scared off my spirit." She said, sounding a little bit annoyed. "Nothing scares her. She must know you." Abigayle walked in and took a seat, crossing her arms and her legs. She was judging him just as much as he was judging her.
