The room is awash with the golden hues of sunrise when my eyes open. A heavy weight lays across my waist and I turn to see my sleeping mate lying beside me. His naked skin glimmers in the sun, his hair tousled from the previous night. The memories flash through my mind again and I flush. Did that really happen?

Phoenix takes in a deep breath and his eyes open to reveal their ocean blue. His lips tilt up in a sleepy smile and his arm around my waist tightens.

"Good morning, beautiful."

I grin, leaning in to steal a kiss. "Good morning, handsome."

One kiss turns into another, then another. He takes me again, slowly and sensually. We stay like this until the sun is fully risen, beaming in through the windows. When we finally stop, it is only because there is a knock on the door.

"Alpha Phoenix." Caine's voice is tense and muffled through the wood.

Phoenix sighs, irritated, and pulls himself out of bed, giving me one last kiss before walking to the closet. I watch him go, a smile still on my face. It's probably best if I get dressed, too, so I stand and go into the bathroom.

I shut the door behind me to give Caine and Phoenix some privacy. The bath is still filled with water and I giggle, leaning down to open the drain. I walk to the shower and turn it on, letting the water run and warm up. I turn to grab a towel from the cabinet and stop when I see my reflection in the mirror.

At first, I think I must be seeing things. Something is on my throat, dark against my pale skin. I walk towards the mirror and rub my eyes to clear them. When I look again, I see it clearly. A tattoo is there, where there wasn't one before. Where mine had been burned away.

The delicate swirls of the "Luna" symbol spread across my throat and collarbones. My family tree has been changed, the symbol for "mate" marking the spot at the top. It matches the one I saw on Phoenix last night. I reach my hand up and trace my fingers along the symbol, in awe at the sight.

My wolf is equally shocked. I didn't think it would ever come back.

I shake my head. Of course it never came back. Nothing in my life changed, so there was no reason for whatever magic that controls it to update it. But now I have a mate and I'm a...

I pause in my thoughts, looking back at the "Luna" mark. I have never seen one in person before. Alpha Julian's wife never came to the pack house in Aurora and Phoenix's mother isn't alive. I've only ever seen this one in pictures. The lines are softer than the rest of the mark, more feathery. There are no sharp edges like in the "Alpha" symbols, but it is equally commanding. No one could deny what this means.

A knock on the bathroom door pulls me out of my thoughts. The room has filled with steam from the shower and the mirror has begun to fog. I shake my head and open the door just a crack to peer through. Phoenix stands on the other side.

He smiles at my appearance before saying, "Caine needs me on the training grounds for a few hours. Will you be okay by yourself?"

I nod. "Yes, of course. Is everything okay?" I remember how tense Caine's voice was and concern blossoms in my chest.

"Everything's fine. Just a few idiot pups doing something they shouldn't. I should be back by lunch time." He leans down to kiss me and I lean into him. His lips linger on mine for a moment before he pulls away. "Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything."

I just smile and shoo him away, shutting the door firmly behind me. I sag against the door and sigh. It's been a hell of a week.

After a long, much-needed shower, I dress in comfortable clothes for the day. It's Saturday and I plan to do as much nothing as I can. I'm pulling on an oversized t-shirt when there's a knock on the bedroom door.
