BOWIE REMEMBERED, BACK IN FEBRUARY, SHE STARTED SUFFERING FROM NIGHTMARES. every time she closed her eyes to sleep, she was plagued by something horrendous. no amount of medication or anything stopped the nightmares either.
it got to about the twenty third of february before her siblings started to get pissed off. and bowie couldn't even blame them. she'd hate to be waked up in the middle of the night for about three weeks straight because one of her siblings started screaming and crying.
at the time, the head counsellor hadn't been clarisse. it had been a son of ares called hyunjin park. hyunjin was about fifteen years old and he had been at camp for a good few years. he was the typical child of ares ----- scary, violent, angry. but he wasn't really aggressive and snappy towards his siblings like he was towards the other demigods. he was normally quite docile around his siblings. the twenty third of february was the first night he was woken up by bowie's nightmares. hyunjin had always been a pretty heavy sleeper.
while the other ares children were moaning and complaining at bowie as she sat upright, gasping for breath and sobbing, hyunjin grabbed one of the plushies from his collection in the middle drawer under his bed ----- a little vulture. he got out of his bed and didn't even complain when a few loose screws almost got embedded into his bare feet.
"go back to sleep." he told his siblings, "I've got this." he always spoke so softly towards them that they couldn't help but believe that they'd be safe aslong as he was around.
slowly, they laid back down and their complaining ceased and soon the ares cabin was almost silent again ----- apart from bowie's sobs and quick, uneven breaths. hyunjin just climbed into her bed beside her, handing her the little vulture. he pulled her close and let her rest on him, stroking her hair to relax her.
"it's alright, bee, I've got you." he whispered to her quietly, "no ones gonna hurt you as long as I'm around." his eyes softened at the sight of her tear stained cheeks and the sound of her sniffles ----- his normally sharp emotionless brown eyes became so gently and paternal towards her. "I'm gonna keep the nightmares away tonight." he pressed a kiss to her hairline, "are you. . . are you gonna be okay to sleep now?"
bowie didn't want to go back to sleep ----- she didn't want to set foot back into the realm of nightmares but hyunjin said he'd protect her, and she believed him.
( foolish girl )
she let out a nod and shut her eyes, curling her body against her big brother. if he was next to her while she slept, the monsters in her dreams would be too scared to chase after her, wouldn't they? they wouldn't dare to go ahead and try to hurt her or terrify her. hyunjin would keep them all away, that was his job as her big brother ----- to protect her from the evil in the world.
