Max stared at me like I was crazy.

"You don't know what Disneyland is?" she asked and I shook my head, confused.

Max smiled broadly.

"Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed and moved herself on the bed to face me.

"What...what is it?" I asked and she laughed.

"The happiest place on Earth."

I stared at her.

"Happiest place on Earth?" I repeated and she nodded, grinning.

"Its this giant amusement park in California, with rides and giant animals and junk food!" she told me as if it were the best thing ever.

"A-amusement park? What is amusement park?" I stuttered, her entire explanation only raising more questions.

"Its like...a park with like rides and sh!t." she explained laughing.

I smiled hesitantly.

"You know Mickey Mouse?" she asked and I nodded slowly. He was in one of the comic books Max read to me.

She grinned.

"He lives there."

My eyes must have lit up out of excitement, because Max giggled.

"He's real?" I asked incredulously.

Max giggled softly.

"Kind of." She said and I grinned still.

Our moment was broken by a knock on the bedroom door.

"Yeah?" Max called and the door opened to reveal a man I had never seen before.

He was tall, with red hair like Max's. Max stared at him for a moment before running into his arms, tears in her eyes.

"Max," he whispered.

"Dad." She whispered back.

The two pulled away to stare at each other.

"You've grown up." He noticed and Max laughed slightly.

"Yeah," she murmured. "What are you doing here?"

He smiled.

"I'm here to help out with the...situation."

Max's smile faltered.

"Are we...going back to California?" she asked and I began to panic.

Max was my best friend, I couldn't bear to lose her. Especially not while being broken up with Mike.

Max's father shook his head.

"Not permanently. But I want to take you there on a trip. You can go to the skatepark, Disneyland." He said with a grin.

Max didn't look so enthused.

"Does Hopper know?" she asked and her father shook his head.

"No, but he wont mind. If he's the good man I've heard him to be, he'll agree it's a good idea."

Max still didn't smile.

"I'm not going without El."

I snapped my head up at the mention of my name, as her father looked behind her to stare at me.

"El?" he asked quizzically.

"Hi," I murmured and he smiled.

"Hi. You're the chief's daughter then?" he asked and I nodded.

"Yeah."

He grinned at me before turning to Max,

"Sure, why not."

Max grinned and pulled me up by my arm. A sudden feeling jolted through me as she touched me but I quickly pushed it away. I knew the feeling but there was no way it was what I thought.

A crush.

"We're going to Disneyland!" she exclaimed, dragging me out of my thoughts and I grinned.

I was going to Disneyland with Max Mayfield. That was surely against the rules.

But I didn't care.

Not one bit.
