Nico: Hey, Eden? I was wondering if we could talk?

Eden: of course we can! where do you want to meet?

Nico: Sorry, I meant over text! Talking in person would be harder for me. Is that okay? We don't have to talk if you don't want to.

Eden: it's alright, we can talk over text! what do you want to talk about?

Nico: So. Um. All of you guys have been really nice to me.

Eden: i'm glad you think so!

Nico: Well, I thought that maybe I could tell you guys something I don't tell a lot of people, but I'm not sure I can.

Eden: oh. i'm kinda in a similar situation.

Nico: Wait, really?

Eden: yeah! i'm worried that if i tell people then everything will be weird.

Nico: Me too! Except I'm also worried everyone is going to hate me if I tell them.

Eden: no one's going to hate you! you're the kindest, sweetest boy in our class!

Nico: Ah, about that. Um.

Nico: I'm not a boy.

Nico: I'm non-binary. So I don't really identify by either gender.

Eden: oh! sorry for assuming.

Nico: It's alright, I didn't really want anyone to know until recently. But now that I've gotten to know you guys, I feel like maybe it would be alright to tell everyone? I thought you'd know better than me how people will react, so what do you think?

Eden: i think everyone will be extremely supportive!

Nico: Do you actually think that, though, or are you just trying to make me feel better?

Nico: Sorry if that sounded mean! I'm just a little worried.

Eden: it's alright, i totally get it! and i'm telling the truth! i think everyone is going to support you! and even if they don't, i'm sure hu will...um...change their mind with absolutely no violence whatsoever. maybe you could just tell her and a few others before you tell everyone else?

Nico: I thought about that, but if the people I didn't tell overhear Hu or you or someone else referring to me with different pronouns they might wonder why and then they'll figure it out and get mad I didn't tell them and--

Nico: Well, you get the point. I'd be a lot less stressed if I just told everyone. That way I don't have to have the same conversation over and over every time I have to tell someone else, or be stressed about anyone I haven't told yet reacting negatively.

Eden: if you're really sure. by the way, would you mind if i also told everyone my secret? it would make me feel better if someone else was there to help share the attention. if you want to, of course! i don't want to force you into anything.

Nico: Actually, having someone else to make sure everyone's not just talking to me would be great. Should we tell them now?

Eden: that sounds good. it's been pretty quiet today, and that probably won't last long. now would be a good time!

Nico: Okay. Um, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but what's your secret? Are you also gender non-conforming?

Eden: oh, i identify as a girl, but i. uh. like other girls romantically.
