King Reginald (Reggie)

I ended up escorting lovely Jiku into the dining room and into her seat at the long wooden rectangular table where I sat at the head of the table. We were in the dining room which had high faulted ceiling, gorgeous fine rugs underneath our feet and chairs fit for royalty. Sadly, the status of our titles kept coming up.

Apparently since Charlotte was a queen she really ought to sit at the head of the table or at least much closer to it.

"Don't you think our status and title are important? I mean they really help us create boundaries and understand who we are and what we are supposed to do. Don't you think so too, King Reginald?" She said batting her eyes.

My eyebrows flew up. She had clearly disregarded my title before but had made sure that I call her queen yet here she was finally calling me 'king'?

The woman wasn't so oblivious because she dropped that subject and went diving into a whole new one.

"I believe that a woman should help you with making the ball a success. You are going to be finding your queen," then she whispered, "especially if she were already a queen."

I know that rolling my eyes is juvenile and pointless, but I did it anyway. Somehow some way I was going to survive this meal and the time between now and the ball when I could pick someone to be my bride. And surprise, surprise, it was not going to be Charlotte.

"Tom, I know how much this ball means to you I really wouldn't mind helping out with it." Dame Wimberly said as she put her hand on my arm.

She had practically fought for her seat next to me. I'm amazed there has been no blood shed.

" Reginald, it's Reginald," I said aggravated, "And since you are all guests here at the castle I could simple not ask you to work for a ball you were asked to attend."

She scoffed and batted her hand in the air, "It's really no big deal at all, Reginald," She winked.

If she insisted.

"Well then I think it's an absolutely fantastic idea!" I said trying to get all the fine ladies attention.

"Amelia," I said grabbing her hand and holding it which caused her to blush, "Has come up with an amazing idea! If you wish to you may help plan the ball."

Charlotte stared daggers at Amelia and whispered to Olga sitting next to her, " It was my idea you know."

Olga just sat there enjoying her soup, ignoring Charlotte as best she could.

After dinner finally ended. The ladies who chose to help with the ball followed some of the maids who were getting everything ready in the great hall.

I exhaled for once.

The castle was decently quiet except for the rumblings of nobles with too much power, A.K.A. Charlotte, and Amelia.

The rest of the nobles were either in their bedchambers or going on a walk outside. I decided to do the latter. Getting some fresh air and being rid of nobles clawing each other to get to me I made my way over to the castle garden.

Walking around hedges of varying shapes and varieties and beautiful flowers in every shade of the rainbow all neatly structured along the pebbled path I heard voices around the next bend.

As I turned I found Jiku, Sakina, Adelaide, and Sophia all there. Jiku and Sakina were wearing traditional Conwam dresses which had no confinement at all and were made out of soft flowing material that only came to their knees and was one solid color which was naturally dyed faded yellow. Adelaide was wearing a dress that was also flowing but held the traditional aspects of her home country of Thoreau which meant the waist line was under her bust instead of at the actual waist. Her dress was also floor length and pink rosettes were painted all over her turquoise dress. She wore a flower crown of the same pink rosettes to match. Sophia sported her usual pantaloons.
