September, 2023.

Minji was walking through the campus library when someone suddenly dropped something from her bag. It was a keychain. A crochet keychain. Something that is similar to what Minji had before.

"Excuse me, can you give me that keychain? It's mine."

"Oh, sure." Minji was surprised. She didn't realize that she had spent almost a minute looking at that keychain.

Well, what else can she do?

Even a keychain can remind her of him.

Even a keychain can remind her of him

June, 2019.

The library is the second place after the music club room that Minji visits the most in her university life, especially when she doesn't want to interact with anyone. There, in the hall of knowledge, you shall find Minji between the immense towering shelves of books, looking for something to read.

That day, Minji got the book she wanted. It was a bit sad that she couldn't read any novels as she need to get her tasks done. For that, she sat there, staring at her laptop and sometimes searching for help on the book beside her. She put the buds of her earphone into her ears, letting the beats of a song with the harmonious melody crashing to each other like ocean waves crashing the shore.

Task, book, and music. Such a perfect time for an introverted girl like her.

She was too busy in her own bubble, not noticing that someone had sat beside her, looking at Minji with the warmest smile that can even make the sun feel insecure. As he reached one bud of the earphone and put it on his ears, Minji turned with her eyes that were about to pop out from its place.

"What are you do—"

The boy, Beomgyu, raised his eyebrows for a second then closed his eyes as he tried to listen to the song. He didn't even bother a second to think about how Minji was very confused by his actions right now. Well, Minji had no other choice than shook her head and let him do what he wants.

He opened his eyes, "you like Billie Eilish?"

"Yeah."

"Her music is calming, right?"

"Agree. Especially this song, I really love the lyrics."

And you say

"As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you

Don't wanna lie here, but you can learn to

If I could change the way that you see yourself

You wouldn't wonder why you hear

'They don't deserve you'"

Beomgyu smiled, again, looking at Minji as if he was searching for something hidden beneath her dark eyes. "Have you found the 'you' in the song yet?"

Now, Minji was stunned. She was silent for a moment, refusing to answer until she finally said, "Not yet, I guess."

He nodded, making Minji more agitated with his unpredictable response. In her head, there were just too many questions.

What is he actually trying to do now?

Why does he want to listen to a song with me?

Why did he even ask that question?

What's wrong with that response?

Why is he interested with me?

Wait, is he interested with me?

Minji went back to reality, only to see Beomgyu smiling at her captivatingly. A kind of smile that Minji couldn't help but stare. "I know you will find that 'you' sooner or later."

"Ah, I almost forgot it." Beomgyu grab something on his jacket purse. It was a crochet keychain. An adorable cat figured crochet keychain.

"Birthday gift. Better late than never, right? Haha."

"Is it

"Is it ... for me?" Minji was hesitant, which was then answered with a nod by Beomgyu. He reached out Minji's hands, placing the keychain in her arms.

"I tried hard to make it by myself, if you wanna know."

"You made this?"

"Ah, not that one." He laughed, reaching out for another cat crocheted keychain he had. It looks similar with the one he gave to Minji, except that one of the eyes were bigger than the other, so does the ears, and a crooked mouth. "I made this one. Don't tell me it's ugly, it's my best try after all. My sister was frustrated to teach me making it, you know!"

Minji laughed too. It was so funny to look at how messy and unsymmetric the one that Beomgyu had made. At least he tried her best. "Thank you, anyway."

"You're most welcome. I'll make sure to check that you wear it every day from now. I don't want to make my hard work useless."

"But you made that ugly one, not this one." Minji replied, trying to annoy Beomgyu by looking so low at his handmade crochet keychain.

"Hey, it was a really really hard work to make my sister make it. I gotta buy her ice creams after this."

Minji smiled but also wondered, "why are you doing this, then?"

"Well, I don't know. I just follow what my heart tells me to do."

"Ridiculous." Minji commented. Feeling unsure about this new experience she had. It was the first time in her life, someone gave her a birthday gift. It was the first time in her life, someone put so many thoughts and effort to give her something.

It was the first time ...

"You have English literature class after this right? let's go." Beomgyu stood up.

"Wait, how do you know?

"We're in the same class, Miss girl. How couldn't you notice someone as good looking as me?"

"Isn't it your first class after moving here?"

"You got me." Beomgyu laughed, spreading his right hand in front of Minji, "come on, we have 5 minutes left."

"Okay but do we really need to hold hands, tho?"

"Oh, sorry." Beomgyu knocked his own head for his stupidity, then putting both of his hands in his pockets.

Minji smiled and followed Beomgyu to the class. They sat next to each other and spent such an unusual time. It was strangely nice for Minji that she was starting became comfortable with Beomgyu now.

His eyes, his smile, his laugh ...

So treacherous for Minji's heart.
