We were all waiting for Bella to have the baby, for the pack to attack, anything. Some of us had gone into the study to see if he could find anything about vampire babies. I feel like the only things that will come up are folklore and stories made up from hysteria.
Esme and I went outside and brought the wolves some sandwiches and water so they could stay hydrated and have things to eat while they were patrolling. Leah was a bit hesitant to take the sandwich from Esme. She glanced at me, and I gave her an encouraging nod, and she took it. Even offering Esme a small smile.
Back at the house, Carlisle had given Bella x-rays to see how bad her body had gotten. Me, Bella, and Edward were in Carlisle's makeshift office and listening to what he was seeing in the x-rays.
"Your rib is cracked," Carlisle told us, "But there are no splinters." I figured that was a good thing by the way he said it. "You haven't punctured anything." "Yet," Edward stated "Edward," Carlisle tried to stop him from making this situation worse. He was standing over by Carlisle, and I was next to Bella, holding one of her hands while the other rested on her stomach.
"It's breaking her bones now. It's crushing you from the inside out," He said. I hated the way he said "it" like that wasn't his baby inside her. "Stop calling your baby an 'it' you're the reason they're there in the first place," I snapped at him. He just rolled his eyes at me and slightly turned towards Carlisle, "Carlisle, tell her what you told me. Tell her," He demanded "Carlisle, tell me. It's alright," She said to him, wanting to know. Carlisle walked up next to her and gave her a somber look, "The fetus isn't compatible with your body," As he was explaining this, Bella started to tear up, "It's too strong. It won't allow you to get the nutrition you need. It's starving you by the hour. I can't stop it, and I can't slow it down. At this rate, your heart will give out before you can deliver,"
It hurt to hear. To know that my sister was dying and there was nothing I could do to help other than being there for her. I can't hate the baby, they don't know what they're doing. I just hate that for her to have the family she wanted, it had to come like this.
"Then I'll hold on as long as I can, and then.." She started to say but was cut off by Carlisle "Bella. There are some conditions that even venom can't overcome. You understand? I'm sorry." Carlisle walked out of the room, beckoning me to follow to allow Edward and Bella to talk alone. I gave her a small kiss on her head and told her I'd be back before I followed him out.
