Tough Day Back

"Supes?" Kara opened her eyes and glanced around, taking in her surroundings. "Are you feeling alright?"

Kara shifted before wincing and clutched her right shoulder with her left hand. She carefully sat herself up and finally registered where she was; The Med Bay.

She carefully turned her neck and her eyes landed on Bucky who was in the bed next to her. "Well damn, Supes. I'm honored you like me that much, but this is not what I mean by: feel free to visit me whenever.

Kara ignored him and instead looked at the wires connected to her body and the monitor to her left. "What happened?"

The grin left Bucky's face and he lifted his brows in confusion. "You don't remember? Wanda attacked you. From what I heard, it was brutal. If you weren't, well, you, then you would've died."

Kara grimaced. "I don't understand. Why am I not healing?"

"Wanda's magic affected your Kryptonian abilities somehow. It should be back to normal in a couple days." Bruce had wandered over with Steve and Tony following behind looking very worried. "How are you feeling?"

Kara mustered a weak smile before grimacing again. "I've felt better."

"How's that shoulder? I had to relocate it but it was proving really difficult. It took Hulk's help and I don't know if he did a good job."

"It's sore. But I think it's back in. God, this is like the one time I lost my powers and broke my arm. except my whole body hurts."

"Alright. Sore is normal. Let me know if anything gets worse. You've got a nasty cut on your face that I cleaned. It's not deep enough to require stitches, but it might take a while to heal. if you want me to do it while your skin is still un-bulletproof, I will."

"No, that's alright. It should heal once I get my streanght back, right?"

Bruce nodded. "I think so. I just don't know how long it'll take, or if Wanda altered your body completely." Kara's eyes widened as she thought about not being able to be supergirl ever again.

"I'll keep you posted, okay?"

Kara nodded at Bruce as he walked over to Bucky before turning to Steve and Tony. Steve's face had cuts and bruises all over and Tony had a black eye.

"Oh my God. Steve, your face?!"

Steve placed a comforting hand on her uninjured shoulder. "I'm fine. It's just a couple of bruises. They'll heal."

"I'm fine too, thanks." Tony's voice cut though their moment and Kara turned her head to face him. Tony rolled his eyes at her as she gave him a look.

"I was getting there. What even happened to you?"

"Wanda Wrangling! She's freaking relentless. She was with-"

Steve silenced him with a look before turning back to Kara who wore a skeptical expression.

"She was what?"

"It's not important right now. Please just try to heal up. Once you're all healed, we'll being you up to speed."

"How's Loki?" Kara asked, remembering he had been down there with her.

"Lokis fine. He's - Actually I have no idea what he's doing. But he's in one piece. I know that. The only think besides you that is injured is the compound. Tony's got some weird science nanotechnology of sorts dealing with it."

"And Wanda?" Kara asked, grimacing at the thought.

"She's back in her cell. We've sedated her. Actually.." Tony paused and looked at his watch. "I'm going to go check on her. It's been a while since we gave her the drugs."

"Tony?" Kara called out his name as he turned, walking away. He stopped and turned back to face her.

"Yes?"

"Is Morgan okay?" Kara was worried about the young girl who had been upstairs during the incident.

Tony smiled softly. "She's fine. A little spooked but completely unharmed. She's with Pepper back home."

Kara nodded and lay back against her pillows, wincing as she did so before looking up at Steve's face, worried eyes scanning over his wounds.
"Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm fine, Kara. I've faced worse." He said gently.

"I know. I'm sorry. I'm just — I mean, I'm still a little in shock I guess. What did she mean, it's was my fault?"

Steve hesitated and turned to face Bruce who nodded. Kara looked between them, trying to read their reaction then looked at Bucky who was looking equally as curious.

"Steve? What's going on?" Kara was growing increasingly concerned, waiting for their response.

"Kara... Wanda— she," Steve blew out a breath, wondering how to answer as Kara looked at him, her face showing concern. "We spoke to her earlier while you were out. She confessed to working for HYDRA. When you arrived and HYDRA got word of you and your abilities, she was ordered to find a way to get you to them. That day they took Nat... that was her. They were trying to lure you in. They were never after Bucky."

"Wha- what?!"

"Wait so you're saying I'm sitting here on this hospital bed for nothing?!" Bucky interrupted, looking pissed. "Why did they attack me then?"

"I don't know the answer to that. I'm sure they had their reason-"

"Hold up," Kara cut in, silencing the two super soldiers with a look. "I still don't understand. Why does she blame me for Visions death? I mean, that's what turned her to to The Scarlet Witch, right?"

"HYDRA killed Vision when you left. Because she failed to bring you in."

Kara's face dropped. Despite everything, Vision had been kind to her. "So... it was my fault."

"No, no! Wanda's poor decision making is not your responsibility. She knew what she was getting into when she betrayed us."

Kara remained silent, taking everything in. She shifted uncomfortably in her bed, grimacing as her shoulder ached. Finally she looked up at Steve, eyes brimming with tears. "I think - I need to sleep."

"Kara..."

"Please, let me be by myself."

Steve looked at her before hesitantly walking away, leaving Kara and her whirling mind. She could feel Bucky's eyes burning into the back of her head but ignored him. Bruce walked over and checked her vitals before closing the curtain around her, giving her some privacy. Kara lay down, staring up at the plain ceiling as she took in everything she just learned. She knew realistically that Visions death wasn't her fault, but she couldn't help feel incredibly responsible.
As she drifted off to sleep, she could hear the lowered voices of Steve and Bruce, no question talking about her.
