He looked at the text that was sent last night; a text from Alison.

Alison! he responded. Where were you?

Alison's contact showed green.

Tobee's friend was online.

Tobee, I'm so sorry, the friend texted.

Tobee tensed.

What happened?

He waited for two minutes until he got a response: Tired.

Are you all right?

I've been feeling depressed. I'm sorry for not texting.

Oh... Are you okay?

Three minutes passed.

He texted again; Ali, are you okay?

He saw the friend's contact had turned to white.

Tobee stared at the message.

With every text he sent, five minutes went by with no response.

He heard his name being called.

The boy set the phone on the bed, meeting his mother downstairs.

He saw his mother on the couch, watching the news.

"Yes, Mom?"

The mother looked at Tobee.

"There's zombies." she said.

"Zombies?"

Tobee walked closer to the TV.

He saw the reporter saying that zombies are roaming the streets.

"They have no evidence to show how this happened."

Tobee felt more panicked. "A zombie outbreak? This can't be real..."

The mother turned the TV off, looking at her son. "They said that people saw zombies on the border of Virginia. They're moving up here. The news says that it's safe to go outside, since they're far away; but I don't know."

Tobee nodded. "Am I allowed to go to school?"

The mother stared at her lap. "If anything happens, and if you have your phone, call me."

Tobee went upstairs, closing his bedroom door.

He felt nauseous.

He heard a noise coming from his phone.

His chest tightened as he stared at the 'No'.
