The principal looked at him, and then to his mother.
Tobee tapped his foot.
"Tobee, what's going on?" Tobee heard the boss of the school say.
Tobee stared at the floor.
"Tobee? Could you talk to Mr. Hayes for us? Could you tell us why you were having a panic attack? We've been waiting for ten minutes." his mother said.
Tobee wiggled his fingers in his lap.
He heard his mother's deep sigh.
The mother thanked the principal.
"Come on, Tobee. Let's go home." he heard his mother behind him.
"We'll have an eye on him, miss. Don't worry."
Tobee stood, flattening his tense hands.
He took a shaky breath, following the mother out of the room.
He glanced at the clock; 3:40 PM—they should have been home right now.
His mother offered him to sit, but the boy refused.
"Tobee, sit and tell me what's going on."
The boy sat on the cushioned bench, adjusting the green band shirt and his jean jacket.
"Tobee, I know—"
Tobee cried.
He knew that his mother was shocked, but he didn't care.
Hiding his face with his hands, Tobee couldn't control the sobs.
"I'm sorry, Mom..." he said, coughing.
"For what? What's wrong?"
Tobee felt her hand rub his back. "It's about... everything."
He looked at her, and it made him cry more.
"What about everything? What happened? Is it school?"
Taking off his glasses, Tobee took a breath. "Yes, and the zombies. Alison, too."
He saw her mouth wide open in the corner of his eye.
"I told you not—"
"I didn't go, Mom... She hasn't been answering anything, and I—"
"I knew that I had a feeling about her. She ghosted you, and I'm sure that—"
"No, Mom. She—"
The mother stood, her hands in fists. "She is a jerk and I don't want you to hang out with her. I knew that I suspected something when you introduced her."
"You're not—"
"Come on."
Tobee saw his mother walk away.
He wiped his wet eyes, pulling out his phone.
Checking the chat with Alison, he stared at the text that he hadn't replied to; nonetheless could: I feel like I'm going to die.
Tobee followed his mother out of the school.
