NATHANIEL MASTERON HAD come full circle.
He had existed as a child and an enigma; growing up with secrets in his bloodline and guilt wedged between his bones. Lightfooted and breathless, he became a legend before he turned fifteen; a children's bedtime story. A thief and a shadow. He existed on the pinpoint of a different world; the endless space surrounding him confining him to a home he would only know as a prison.
Death brought grief, but death brought prospects. His later teenage years were spent anticipating his last breaths; rehearsing the exhales and hoping that he wouldn't only remember the hum of his cell. Silence became consuming, something that the boy had previously perfected coming back to render him useless. It was cruel irony; how he had taken time to master the absence of light and sound, and that exact concept was what ended up haunting him - presumably - to his death.
His death was not a given, and never came to be. His prison became a distant memory as he found himself stranded on a foreign planet, disorder and fear becoming a normalcy. New dangers took place of the looming anticipation of death; but Nate appreciated the chaos that came as an accessory to the unknown. And with this unknown, he managed to live past his execution date. Live and grow - becoming someone he never would have pictured during his time as a shadow.
He was alive, but the cost weighed heavy on his shoulders. The cost of forgiveness and the cost of remorse. Nate didn't know how to be who he was. He couldn't remember life before death was at the forefront of his thoughts. He was still the same child who risked everything for memories that weren't his, and he would do it time and time again.
