Percy's POV

I was ripped from sleep as I suddenly found Grover shaking me ferociously out of my bed.

"Percy! Wake up! Percy!" he yelled urgently.

I begrudgingly pushed my blanket off of me as I sat up in my bed. I looked over at him still only half awake, "What, is something happening?"

Grover nodded shakily, his eyes were bloodshot and he looked terrified, "The camps under attack."

As soon as I heard that, we wasted no time and In a moment we rushed out of cabin 3. I was already brandishing Riptide as I scanned the area for what was happening. And as I did, I could hardly process it.

The camp was in chaos, all the campers were out wielding their weapons, half dressed in armor half in pajamas. All of them positioned in a line around the cabins, while Chiron ran up and down the ranks in full centaur form shouting orders, trying to keep everyone in formation. The Hunters made up the other half off the defense of line. Zoe yelling and commanding her sisters, as they launched volley after volley of arrows. I could even see Thalia at the front still in full pajames with a serious case of bedhead. But somehow she still looked just as intimidating as she slashed and stabbed and whatever was pushing against the defenses

"What the heck is happening?!"

Grover shook his head, "I don't know, they just appeared out of nowhere, like ghosts."

I looked back at him, "Wait what? What I appeared? What are we fighting?"

The satyr shook his head as he spoke, "I have to check on Juniper and the rest of the nature spirits to make sure their safe."

And before I could say anything he ran off into the forest, disappearing amongst the trees.

I then turned my attention back towards the fighting. I couldn't see past the line of fighters, and I could barely see through the darkness. All I knew was they were fighting monsters of some kind, and a lot of them.

I quickly rushed over still gripping my sword in my hand as I caught up to Chiron.

"Chiron, what's going on!?"

He looked down at me, trying to retain his calm demeanor through the panic of battle, "Percy, it's good to see you, I feared you had already fallen. Come, I'll show you what we're fighting."

In an instance he lifted me onto his horse body as he ran back to the front lines. And as I peered over the lines of half-bloods and Hunters, I felt the air catch in my throat.

It was like something out of a horror movie. I could hardly tell what they were. They just looked like staggering corpses. Inky black bodies that ran and charged ahead like zombies. There were dozens upon dozens of them clawing and biting at anything that got near them. I watched as one of the Ares kids got a little to close and one of the monsters slashed at their arm. The camper curled back as some sort of black smoke seemed to emanate from the wound like it was burning.

Swaths of them pushed against the defenses, their lifeless eyes and black as night bodies pounding against the rows of shield and swords.

"Hunters, release!" I heard Zoe yell, as a volley of arrows was let loose, each one a perfect shot straight to the head of dozens of them. But the arrows barely even stopped them, they just kept moving forward.

"What are they?" I asked wide eyed.

Chiron shook his head, "In all my years of fighting and training I have never encountered beasts such as this."

I had faced many monsters the past few summers, but these creatures were different. Most monsters seemed to at least have some motive, some sort of consciousness, awareness of what they were doing. But these things just seemed mindless, like all they sought was thoughtless destruction.
