Y/n's POV

"Tell me when it's over," Thalia said. Her eyes were shut tight. The statue was holding on to everyone so we couldn't fall, but still Thalia clutched his arm like it was the most important thing in the world.

"Everything's fine," Percy assured her.

"Are... are we very high?"

I looked down. Below us, a range of snowy mountains zipped by. I could almost touch the snow with my hand.

"It's not that bad!" I yelled over the wind, lying.

"We are in the Sierras." Zoe yelled. She and Grover were hanging from the arms of the statue. While I still gripped on to its back. Thalia and Percy beside us on the other automaton.

"I have hunted here before. At this speed, we should be in San Francisco in a few hours."

"Hey, hey, Frisco!" our angel said. "Yo, Chuck! We could visit those guys at the Mechanics Monument again! They know how to party!"

"Oh, man," the other angel said. "I am so there!"

"You guys have visited San Francisco?" I asked.

"We automatons gotta have some fun once in a while, right?" our statue said. "Those mechanics took us over to the de Young Museum and introduced us to these marble lady statues, see. And—"

"Hank!" the other statue Chuck cut in. "They're kids, man."

"Oh, right." If bronze statues could blush, I swear Hank did. "Back to flying."

We sped up, so I could tell the angels were excited. The mountains fell away into hills, and then we were zipping along over farmland and towns and highways.

I got lost in my own thoughts, recalling what had happened back at the junkyard. I still couldn't believe Bianca was gone. I felt so horrible the way I had left her, I had been so cold, so uncaring. Just because I was angry with her for trying to be happy. God, what didn't I just apologize? Why didn't I talk to her?

I let out a strained breath as I gazed out at the horizon before us. I thought back to my encounter with the shadow corpses. I barely had time to put up a fight before they jumped me. And within minutes they were already dragging me away, speaking in raspy voices saying I was there's. Until they started gripping onto me, and in that moment I could feel them drawing Chaos out. Like they were bringing out my darkness, if it hadn't been for the rest of the gang, something really bad could have happened. I wasn't sure what they were actually trying to do, or what they actually wanted but it was concerning none the less. And I was still trying to understand how they kept following us, they had appeared within camp borders and then right in the presence of two gods. Was Chaos getting stronger somehow? Sending his minions to attack me?

Clouds started to form overhead as we continued on. Until slowly we reached the outskirts of Oakland flying over the Red Wood Forest, with San Francisco barely visible on the horizon.

We were almost to our destination, and I was starting to think the quest was turning our way. Of course as soon as the thought passed my mind I felt a rain drop hit me. And then the downpour started.

The angels looked up concerned, all of us doing the same.

"We cannot risk flying like this!" Zoe yelled.

"But we're so close!" Percy yelled.

Rain continued coming down, the metal of the statues becoming more and more slick with water. I could already feel my grip weakening.

"All it takes is one wrong move and we'll plummet two-hundred feet." I yelled.

Zoe nodded, "We need to land!"
