Chapter Ten: Dressed like groupies.

"Why don't we wear balaclavas more often?"

I glanced behind me to see my getaway driver putting on a balaclava. "Xan, take that off."

"Nah, man, I feel so badass right now."

"Ever, take it off him, would you?"

"Occupied," Everest replied, dismissing me with his hand as he turned his attention back to Sarah James who was sitting in the back of Xander's Jeep.

I didn't know what was going on between them, but I knew Ever. I knew he'd try to come on to her at some point. I just didn't think that point would be tonight.

God, if Joey knew what we were up to she'd kill us all.

I stared up at the house a little further up the street. All the lights were turned off accept for one that was at the side of the house.

That must be her room.

I grabbed my phone and pressed on Ophelia's contact as I jogged up the pavement. "Hey, I'm–"

"It's Luke," I heard her exclaim.

I winced and pulled my phone away from my ear. "Jesus," I muttered, bringing my phone back up to my ear, "Could you say it any louder, Ophelia? I don't think I heard you?"

"Luke?"

I stood at the side of her house, hoping that I didn't set off the motion sensor lights at the side of the wall. There was a gutter that I could climb, but I didn't feel like testing death today.

"Hey, Angel." I saw her bedroom window open and I waved up at her. "You gonna come down?"

She bit her lip before disappearing from the window. "Ophelia," I heard her say, but it was muffled, "he's outside the window. You told me we had like five more minutes."

"Yeah," I heard Ophelia shout, "like five minutes ago."

"Dammit," I heard Delaney say before she appeared back at the window. She smiled down at me, almost innocently as if she thought I couldn't hear her conversation with Ophelia. "Hi, Luke."

"Hi, Angel," I smiled, "Ready to go?"

She nodded, "Yeah, I'm ready...I think."

"Oh, she's ready," Ophelia yelled.

I tilted my head at Delaney who's cheeks were reddened. There was definitely something I was missing here, but I was going to take a leaf out of Everest's book and decide not to question it. Girls were complicated, he knew that better than anyone.

"Um, Luke, can you turn around?"

"Turn around?"

Ophelia popped her head out the window. She grinned at me before turning to her best friend, "Why are you blushing?"

"I-um-you know what I think I left the straightener on," Delany stuttered before disappearing from my view.

Ophelia stared down at me, the grin still on her lips. They were both wearing red lipstick and barely any other makeup. Xander was probably wearing more than them. "Bonjour."

"Fuck off, Highlighter."

Ophelia grinned, "You're like one with the French, you know."

I shook my head. I didn't know how to reply to that. I felt like she was insulting me, but the grin on her face made it seem like a compliment. She stared to climb out of the window and I understood them why Delaney wanted me to turn around.
