Chapter Seven: Alive.
D E L A N E Y
Ophelia made it for lunch. I texted her saying that Luke had 'requested' her presence and she practically raced her. I was surprised she didn't get a speeding ticket.
"So, do you want to tell me what happening?" Ophelia asked me as she opened her locker.
I shrugged, "I have no idea."
That was the truth. I had no idea what the guys were up to and for people that always had eyes on them, they were pretty good at hiding. I hadn't heard anything from them since they ran out of the classroom as soon as Ophelia showed up.
They had ran past her shouting something about watching the letterman jacket enthusiasts over their shoulders as they left.
I haven't seen them since and only received one vague message from Luke through the school's drama page. I didn't even know the school had a drama page until a girl in AP English showed me it saying that it was probably to me.
It was a tweet that consisted of four words, but them four words were enough for her to link them to me and if a random girl in AP English could link them to me, then so could anyone.
@LucasYoung: Be Back Soon, Angel.
Xander and Everest had also tweeted, but I feel like theirs were only distractions from Luke's. They knew the way the misdiagnosed would pick up the tweet. The way they would twist it into something it's not.
Did Luke not think about this before he tweeted it?
"Did you know Thea started today?" I asked her as she grabbed a book out of her locker.
The book fell onto the floor. The eyes that weren't on us before all turned to look at us from the noise.
"She's here?" Ophelia asked, her voice breathless as if she was on the verge of a panic attack.
I nodded. Ophelia and her sister never really got along, especially since their parents got divorced a couple years ago. It wasn't easy on either of them, but when Thea started taking it out on Ophelia it only got harder.
Ophelia didn't talk about her much, but when she did it was usually because Thea had done something. Like texted her about one of her boyfriends and how Ophelia never could have one because she's the 'uglier twin'. That she'd always win whenever it comes to looks.
I wanted to tell Ophelia to block her number, but I couldn't really do that. Thea was her sister and even though she was a horrible sister, she was still her sister.
"You know why she's here, right?"
I winced. I figured it out this morning with the show she caused in the hallway. Thea never was nice to me whenever I saw her. She used to belittle me whenever she saw me over at her house and she still DMs me hurtful messages about my Instagram posts.
I wasn't her 'best friend' like she told Luke this morning. I don't even know why I played along with it, because Luke saw straight through her pitiful act. He was good at seeing through people. I guess he had to be with the life he's living.
"Because we're friends with–"
"Legacy is playing!"
My head snapped in the direction of the girl who was now running down the corridor towards the canteen. I looked back at Ophelia to see her zipping up her backpack.
I slammed her locker shut, taking a deep breathe as we both fell into step with the crowd. We were all heading towards the canteen and I had no idea what we were going to find when we got there.
