The next morning I woke up as planned. I tiptoed down the stairs with my suitcase in hand. I opened the fridge, grabbed an apple. I walked over to the safe inside the kitchen cabinet and pulled out $500 and headed to the door. I quietly opened the door and started outside and down the sidewalk. I figured I’d get to the park by 10 AM. It’d be a long walk, but it’s around a lot of stores that I could buy from.
I was walking past Stop and Shop when someone put their hand in front of me pushing me back.
“Excuse me?” I said.
“Excuse me what?” In front of me was a young boy. He was about my age. He had a brown hair styled in a “Bieber cut” and had mud brown eyes. He smelt like cologne from Abercrombie. He was kinda cute if I had to admit.
“You’re keeping me from walking.” I dropped my suitcase, put my hands on my hips and frowned.
“What’s with the suitcase?” He asked. “Are you another run-away?”
I smirked. “Maybe. Listen it’s a long story and I have to continue walking if I want to get to the park in time.” I started to walk again but he once again put his hands on my shoulders stopping me.
“Well this makes two of us.”
“What do you mean? What’s your name anyway?”
“I’m running away. I’m sick of my home life. My parents keep on fighting and they’re taking all their anger out on me. I’ve been living this life since I was younger and I just can’t take it anymore. I don’t understand why my mom’s choosing to say with this jerk… I’m John by the way.”
“I’m so sorry. I know how it is… sorta. I’m Taylor-Destiny by the way. But you could call me Taylor, or Tay.”
“Nice to meet you Tay.” He stuck out his hand looking for a handshake and smiled. “Hey you look kind of familiar. Aren’t you like that girl who…”
I stopped him mid-sentence “is the “failure” of my family. My mom and dad are Jean and Steve Miller and my siblings are Cody and Hope Miller…”
“No way! I just thought you were some girl who went to my school!”
“Yeah… I’m not too important compared to my family.”
“Are you kidding me!?!?” He said. “You may not be the star of every movie or some football sensation, but your still a part of that family, and you’re just as important.”
I smiled. “Thanks. No one’s really every told me something like that before. The media treats me like I’m a piece of dirt and I just guessed that everyone else thought that of me too.”
“Anytime.” He said smiling. “Well I can’t just leave you here to walk to the park alone. I’ll come with you. I need somewhere to stay and I have just the perfect place.”
“Sure.” I said excitedly. I grabbed my suitcase and continued walking toward the park with my new friend.
