Purdy, Mousefur, and Longtail

(HUGE SPOILER ALERT)

To start off, in my opinion these are some of the most underrated cats in all of warriors. They all get tremendous personal growth, most notably Longtail, throughout the series. And come on, the chemistry between them is so heartwarming. (I know Purdy says that he wishes he knew Longtail longer, but it is also stated later he considered him a friend) Just look at these quotes! 

Purdy: "I miss Mousefur so much, you know. She was a grouchy old fox at times, but she had the best heart. At least she died protectin' her Clan. It's what she would have wanted."
Dovewing: "It is."
Purdy: "So, why does everyone look so miserable? I go outside an' it's like we're still buryin' our Clanmates. Have they forgotten we drove those blighters out? No Dark Forest cats around here, are there?"
Dovewing: "I... think we're all aware of what has been lost."                                                                      Purdy: "And what about what we won? Did Mousefur, did any of 'em, die for nothing? It's an insult to their memory, that's what it is, to act like we lost everything. [...] Sorry young'un. I was forgettin' myself."                                                                                                                                            Dovewing: "No, it's okay Purdy. You're right. We did win, and we should honor our fallen Clanmates by knowing they didn't die in vain."—Dovewing and Purdy , pages 246-247                                                      

Squirrelflight: "Come with us. I know a way to climb the walls."                                                      Mousefur: "A blind cat can't climb rocks."                                                                                                        Longtail: "Then you go. I can still claw a badger if it comes near enough."                                                Mousefur: "We're staying together and that's that."—Mousefur making sure Longtail is safe during the battle with the badgers.                                                                                                                Longtail: "He's only here often because he's worried about you."                                                          Mousefur: "Because you're worried about me...You really shouldn't fuss so much. A cat my age is bound to feel the cold more easily."                                                                                                            Longtail: "But your eyes and nose are streaming."                                                                                      Mousefur: "It's just the cold air."—Longtail and Mousefur arguing over Jaypaw when he comes to check up on her

Now we need to talk about Longtail's character growth. His character has some of the best development in the entire series period. He goes from an annoying, rude, and mouse-brained follower of Tigerclaw, to a loyal, friendly, and optimistic elder. I always wished he had a better death scene than running under a falling tree to save a FRICKEN MOUSE. (Mousefur, it had better have been enchanted by Starclan or something!) I feel like the point where his character changed the most was once he lost his eyesight. I think it humbled him and made him realize how much he took for granted, especially Firestar's kindness even after everything Longtail did to him as an apprentice and young warrior. So long story short, Longtail was a very annoying character in the first series, and then once he becomes an elder, he is in my opinion, one of the most likable characters in the entire series.

Moving on to Mousefur. She too, had great character growth, and her personality in my opinion, is one of the best in the entire series. As stated by Purdy after her death during the great battle, she had the temper of a grouchy fox, yet the best heart. Earlier in The Last Hope, it is stated that she was teaching kits how to reach under the walls of the warriors' den and catch stray tails, which showed a bit of her mischievous side. I was very happy that she died a warrior's death, something that Longtail and Purdy should have gotten as well. And I did love at the end of the battle when she, Longtail, and Purdy got to fight together one last time. It was just absolutely heart-wrenching when they had to leave Purdy all alone. 

Speaking of Purdy, he has got to be in my top 10 list. He's prideful, friendly, loyal, and just an amazing character. The way he kept up the spirits of the kits and apprentices during Bramblestar's storm played such an important role in this traumatizing time in their lives, along with helping Minty feel welcomed. I always found the way he over-exaggerated his stories to the "young-uns'" just hilarious. He deserved a better death then JUST DROPPING DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONVERSATION. I always thought he should have died saving one of the kits or apprentices, as he was always very close to them. Sorry if I stirred up any feelings here lol. Here are some memes to cheer you up :D
