Chapter 9

"How does he even know about Drake? Not even mom knows about him, Bella," Sophia said, her voice laden with a mix of surprise and concern. As they were on their way home, Sophia's mind spun like a whirlwind. She couldn't fathom how Sebastian, who had just entered her life, found out about Drake.

No one knew about him besides Bella and her mom of course who doesn't remember his existence anymore. The story revolved around an affair her father had. The other woman became pregnant, but a cruel twist of fate took her life during childbirth, leaving an innocent child without a mother.

Sophia's mother, driven by anger and resentment, had refused to acknowledge the existence of this child, forcing him to be raised by his grandmother. Sophia had taken on the role of a guardian angel, visiting them in their humble village and sparing no expense to provide food and ensure the education of her brother, Drake.

Drake, a sweet 14-year-old boy, bore a striking resemblance to her father in countless ways. It was this likeness that had prompted Sophia to keep his existence hidden from her mother, fearing the storm that would ensue if the truth were to surface. If she finds out that she's visiting them,it would be a disaster.

"Now, this dream guy of yours is really full of wonders and surprises. This is strange," Bella mused, trying to comprehend the depth of the situation.

Sophia's frustration and anger boiled over. "I don't know if that's something to be surprised about or scared of. And he thinks just because I need money, I will go running to him. He's such a jerk. The audacity of that man is beyond belief... How can you just have the audacity to delve into someone's personal life when you've only met them once? I hate him, Bella! I hate him!"

"Calm down, my friend. Don't stress. You know what they say, 'giggles gabby.' Do whatever you think is right. Don't let a jerk like him get under your skin. He doesn't deserve your attention. Don't stress. I can't believe Sebastian got you all worked up. I thought no man could get in your head."

Sophia sighed, her emotions still swirling like a tempest. "Oh, Bella, I thought so too. Trust me... this lunatic got me."

Later, Sophia arrived at her grandmother Eleanor's house. She greeted her with affectionate kisses and warm hugs. Eleanor, with her sparkling eyes and shared sense of humor, was a reminder of Sophia's father, Philip, who had passed away. Sophia had inherited her father's kindness, love, beauty, and caring nature.

She had always made it a point to visit her grandmother whenever she had the time. The two shared a close bond that was further accentuated by their shared memories of Philip.

"Been busy lately, that's why I didn't get time to visit you. And by the way, where's Drake? He's not back from school yet?" Sophia inquired.

"No, the poor boy has been enduring so much lately. It seems like everyone in his circle meets an unfortunate end. First, there was Melinda, his mother, and then Philip. Now, Rose, the nanny, has passed away. She was like a sister to him. The poor boy has been asking about you all these days. He adores you, Sophia," Eleanor said with a tinge of sadness.

"Don't worry, Grammy. I'll soon find a nice house for the three of us, and we will live together happily. I promise. For now, I just need to settle a few things."

"You mean clean up your mother's mess," Eleanor remarked candidly.

Sophia sighed, feeling a mix of relief and guilt. "Grammy, I... "

"It's okay, my child. I know you don't have much of a choice in the matter. And I know my daughter-in-law can be quite a handful at times. She's a real piece of work, and a bitch" Eleanor added with a chuckle.

"When was the last time you used the word 'bitch,' Grammy?" Sophia asked, a smile spreading across her face.

Eleanor chuckled, "I think I still got it in me."

Their laughter was interrupted as the door swung open, and Sophia's younger brother, Drake, entered the room. Sophia couldn't help but marvel at how much he resembled their father.

"Oh my gosh... look at who we have here. All handsome and flawless in his glory," Sophia said, standing up to greet him. Drake rushed toward her, wrapping her in a tight hug.

"Where have you been? I missed you," he said, his voice filled with longing.

"Work, work, work... I had to work my ass off. That's why I didn't have time for his majesty here. But now I'm here, and I brought something special for you."

Drake's eyes lit up with excitement. "What?"

"Your favorite—brand new JBL headphones and the PlayStation 8, the one you've been dreaming of."

"Sophia, you really bought this for me? You shouldn't have done that. I know you want to make me happy, but it's expensive," Drake said, his eyes glistening with gratitude.

Sophia embraced him warmly. "Come here. Look, Drake, I might not have enough money to fulfill all of your wishes, but I'd do anything to make you happy, even if it means spending all of my savings just to see you smile. No matter what, I'll always try to make you happy, okay? Now, smile, you idiot."

Drake burst into laughter, and the warmth in the room was palpable. "You're the best," he whispered, hugging his sister tightly.
