Red string

I have a string of memories that has been intertwined through my mind.

A world with other colors.

Pictures in the wrong order.

Places I've never been.

Some days I see myself sitting in a car.

Myself in the passenger seat.

I feel as though I'm a shotgun rider to your memories.

Snowflake slowly gather, falling on the window frame.

A breeze comes through the window from a hot summer day.

Sounds of nature that can't be found here.

School rooms and hallways that remind me, I'm not from here.

The world that I wish to be in? Maybe.

But alas, this world is not mine.

I feel an elusive string of emotions, wrapped tightly around my heart.

So, I'll tie a red string around my finger, and maybe I'll remember.

Maybe one day, I'll meet your eyes, or maybe these pictures are from an old life.

Either way, I've been drawn to you.

To all that you sing, your voice like a siren, that ties my red string.

I look down to see it tightly bound around my pinky.

Could it be, I see the memories of my destiny?

Is it someone I will become, or someone I'll meet?

As I twiddle my fingers, I'll follow the red string.
