Chapter 29

Cali Woods

Dante returned a few minutes after he left. The room was dark and I was wearing his shirt, cuddled up in bed.

The shock of what I saw was finally starting to leave me and my mind was only set on finding out why his father did what he did. The only thing I knew for sure was: Dante had lied to me. I was more than sure that Lily knew the truth, she just wasn't the person I wanted to hear it from.

Dante didn't turn on the light as he expertly moved around the room in the dark. He grabbed something from one of the dressers across the room and disappeared into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.

A pang of hurt reached my heart, he was acting as if he was mad at me, and trying to avoid me. He should just be thankful I hadn't freaked out on him. Unfortunately, Blake had to live through that.

I always went through three phases when something bad happened. One: remained shocked. Two: freak out. Three: demand answers.

Currently number three was in affect and I was impatiently waiting for Dante to leave the damn bathroom and give me those answers.

After hearing the shower run for five minutes and fiddling with my fingers. Dante stopped the water and emerged from the bathroom in a pair of boxers. They were hanging tight on his bottom, revealing his v-line and...manly hood.

I blush crept it's way up my face, the night hiding my embarrassment. I looked away from him after watching a droplet of water run from his lip down to his muscular stomach. Dante remained staring at me from the bathroom, not caring that I was ogling him. I expected a snarky remark with his famous smirk.

He surprised me by shutting off the bathroom light and running his fingers through his hair nervously. I still remained seated on the bed as he walked towards me, pulling himself underneath the blankets. He turned his back to me, giving me a perfect view of his wide shoulders and spiral tattoo. Would a business man really need all this muscle and an intimidating tattoo. Maybe I was just reading too much into this?

But, I did see a man get shot and tumble to the floor like a sack of rocks. I needed the answers.

I reached across the bed and poked Dante's back. He tensed, flexing his back muscles. He didn't turn towards me but I knew his attention was all on me.

"Dante?" I whispered. I wanted my voice to come out more authoritative but of course it came out like it usually did, like a sad teen girl.

Dante hummed in response, lying flat on his stomach. He had yet to turn and look at me.

"I'm ready to talk about it." I whispered, tugging on the blanket that was around his waist tightly.

Dante turned his head to look at me, finally. His eyes were low with exhaustion, his hair ruffled from the shower and the pillow; he looked even more desirable looking at me like this. I gulped as he moved his body, his front facing me, "Now?"

I yawned and laid down next to him, grabbing his hand and lying his arm across my waist. I was still shaken from the murder I witnessed and the room was eerily dark.

Dante pulled me closer to his chest, my left arm rubbing against his abs, "Yes."

Dante shook his head and placed a chaste miss against my neck, "We're both tired, Cali. How about in the morning, at a diner down the street?"

I raised an eyebrow at him and positioned my head on his bicep that was lying under my head, silently agreeing. Our breaths mixed as we pulled each other closer. The window was left open a little and the cold air from outside drifted in, making me shiver.
