It was locked.
Aru muttered a few curse words under her breath.
"Of course, it's locked," She muttered, "With my freaking luck..."
After a few more angry pulls, Aru finally let go of the knob.
"Agh!"
She kicked the door, using all her strength to knock it down. Not very shockingly... It didn't work.
"You stupid‒"
She kicked the door.
"‒ little‒"
Another kick.
"‒door!"
She kicked the door one last time, and to her annoyance, it stayed stubbornly shut. Having used up most of her energy, Aru panted as she glared at the knob. Then she turned around on her heel, pouting as she pulled her phone out of her purse. She ignored how the porch stairs creaked painfully as she descended them, as if they were longing for her to stay.
With a quick swipe she unlocked her phone, and she quickly went to her contacts. She dragged her suitcase behind her, walking in no particular direction, as she stared at her contacts.
Mini.
Aru paused for a second, trying to rethink her decision. Mini didn't know that she was here. If she found out now, however, she would be really mad. Aru risked a glance over her shoulder; The mansion was a couple steps away, still inviting as ever. But...
She looked back at her phone.
Screw it, she thought, I'm calling her.
But as her finger hovered above the "call" button, a low creaking sound could be heard from behind her.
...Creak...
Aru's head shot up, averting her gaze from her phone. She froze and exhaled, breath shaking. She didn't want to turn around. Not yet.
A weird silence settled over the woods– even the birds quieted down, as if waiting in anticipation to see Aru's next move. The only thing that she could hear was a gust of wind that cascaded through the forest, bringing her hair up to her shoulders. A shiver ran down her spine, not just because of the cold.
And then Aru couldn't take it anymore. She whipped her head around, heart pounding, and–
"Oh..."
The door. The door, which had been jammed shut just seconds ago, was now wide open.
At first, her brain didn't process anything. But then happiness swelled up inside her– This was her home. She would be able to finally relive all her childhood experiences, and find out about her family. She finally wouldn't be in the dark anymore.
She ran up the stairs as quickly as she could, dragging her suitcase along and clutching the railing to prevent herself from tripping. Once again, she stopped before the entrance. She let out a small, shocked laugh.
As she peered in, Aru could barely make out anything on the inside, as it was pitch dark. But that darkness seemed so... Inviting. As if it was calling her name.
Aru, Aru, Aru...
She blinked and took a deep breath. She would finally be home.
And with one look back at the woods, she set a foot into her house.
What have you done?
