And there it was. Like an ethereal blue and green marble, spinning around. Pandora
They were right when they said that you don't dream in cryo, because you don't. Waking up after five years in a deep sleep feels more like a flash in your memories, you barely remember falling asleep to start with. It's like coming to your senses after a shells been dropped right next to you, you don't remember it happening but your instincts are telling you to move and so's the adrenaline.
That's what it was like for Rune. The woman's eyes slowly fluttered open, stopping at half way as she woke up from cryosleep. The vibrance of the blue LED's in her vault filtered into her half open eyes, making her want to shut them again to stop the bright light from hurting. However, something in the back of her head urged her to wake up and open her eyes, to not fall asleep. She gave into the nagging thought and fully opened her eyes, taking in her surroundings. Small droplets of water floated past her face, bubbling together. Her right ear felt stuffed, but she couldn't hear any ringing from it which was good. Everything was quiet, but in a nice way.
'Huh, where am I?' she thought, the woman not yet remembering why she'd been asleep or why she was stuck inside some sort of high-tech coffin. Her head felt hazy and weird, like she'd been stuck underwater for too long and been filled with cotton balls. It was stuffy and confusing.
She playfully reached a hand out and knocked away the floating water droplets, watching them dissipate into smaller droplets and fly away from her. She could feel resistance against her body movement, like something tugging against her body and stopping her from moving too much. It chafed against her t-shirt and pants. She looked down and saw thick black straps tightened against her body, keeping her in place from floating in her vault. Bands around her arm had thin and thick and all types of tubes plugged into them. There was another patch of black fabric strapped over her chest, heart monitor tubes plugged into it.
Oh, she was floating.
Oh.....
The memories quickly returned to her, the woman recalling what she was doing and what she was in.
She was in her Cryo-capsule, 5-L, where she had been for the past five years in deep sleep, on her transit to Pandora, the moon of Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri system. She was here to be an Avatar-Driver and work with Dr. Grace Augustine to record the Na'vi, a brand new lease on life. She was next to Camille Patterson and Billy Danvers, the two acquaintances she'd made before going into cryo. Her train of thought was suddenly interrupted by a whirring sound and movement as the cryo-capsule she was in slid out of her niche. The coffin-like bed whined and hissed as it moved
Her eyes were immediately assaulted by eye bleaching white and vibrant blue light that reflected around the hexi-tube style Cryovault that all the Cryo-capsules were located in. She floated more upwards now as an unseen person pulled her all the way out, clenching her eyes shut as she adjusted to the brighter light level. She eventually adjusted and took in the sight, seeing the multilayered room, hundreds of people floating out of their pods and down the cryovault.
Her view was eclipsed by a staff-member, Ivory, who gave Rune a couple of taps on the face to wake her up properly."Wake up sunshine." the woman's voice was dull in Rune's ears as she set about removing the needles from the passengers body and undoing the straps.
"Are we there yet?" Rune croaked out, rubbing her eyes with her free arm.
"We're here darlin', we're here." Ivory told her as she finished unstrapping the woman.
The staff-member in question then called out loudly to the passengers, "People, you have been in cryo for five years, nine months and twenty two days. You will be hungry, you will be weak. If you feel nausea, please use the sacks provided for your convenience. The staff thanks you in advance."
