"Think fast numbnuts!"
Rune strolled peacefully into the link room the next morning, freshly showered, feeling well rested and comfortable in the air-conditioning compared to the humidity of the Pandoran morning that she had just taken a run in. She had opted to leave her hearing aid out for the morning as she'd be linking up soon and leaving it out was just more convenient.
Her slightly wet hair was plastered against her head, she didn't bother to pull it up. She looked down at her watch, it was five minutes to eight. Jake and Norm should be here soon."Morning Grace! Morning Max!" she greeted cheerfully, waving to them.
The two doctors briefly waved back from where they sat in the centre control, looking over some results on tech-pads. Rune shuffled over to them, grabbing an office chair and pushing off, sliding in beside the two. She looked over Max's shoulder at the tech-pad.
"What are we looking at here?"
"De -ealth stats for Norm and Jake's Avatar," Norm told her, voice muffled as he passed over a secondary pad, "They're good."
Rune took the pad and looked over it, most of the information on it was understandable for her, like the O2 stats, heart rate, basic neuron activity, the rest was too complex for her.
"You already decanted them?" she asked, raising her voice to hear herself. Everyone in the lab was used to it by now.
"Well, you decided to be late -his morn..., so yes." Grace told her, a hint of scolding in her voice but not in her eyes.
"I wanted to get a workout in, I've got to keep my actual body in good shape too Grace," Rune explained to her mentor, "Anyways, I'll show up early for the rest of the week. I've got a lot of work to do for prepping for our upcoming expedition. I need to set up some data collecting programs and go over our notes from the Na'vi. Eventually, Norm and I are going to start putting together a theoretical evolutionary model of the Na'vi."
"Oh really now are w..?" Grace asked, raising a brow.
"Yup, it's going to be a pain in the ass and take forever, but it'll be good."
"That's great Rune," Max told her, "You've -hearted collecting data alre..., right?"
"Yup. Documented basic features and genes shared by the creatures of Pandora."
"Alright." he nodded, then turned back to his screen, swiping through analytics.
"- you think ..eel be excited about gettin' his legs back th-?" asked Grace.
"Nearly as excited as I was when I got to hear properly again, Grace." answered Rune.
She slightly regretted not bringing her hearing aid now, it wouldn't have made much of a difference, but it would've gotten rid of the muffle and made it slightly easier for her other ear to focus on her companions talking. But it didn't matter anyway, she'd be linked up soon and she'd have full hearing there. The thing was, when you've had hearing your whole life and then all of a sudden, you lose it, it becomes rather frustrating. Unlike those born without hearing, because the sound of nothing was all they knew, but even they could get frustrated.
Rune looked at her watch again, it was exactly eight O'clock.
Then she looked up and saw Norm and Jake walking, and rolling, into the link room, right on time."Spellman! Sully!" she called out, quickly descending the stairs and walking over to them, "Glad to see you could make it on time."
"Wouldn't miss it!" Norm expressed loudly, eyes bright as usual.
"Not like would could." Jake replied.
This earned him a slight chuckle from Rune, who stood in front of them arms crossed.
