Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

≪ °☆° ≫

You've had a crush on the famous Cedric Diggory for months, as would any sane girl or guy at Hogwarts.

While the girls are supposed to ask, they rarely do. And that's fine with you, because you don't have the guts to go up and ask the Cedric Diggory to the Yule Ball.

"Stop drooling over him, (Y/N)," Hermione whispers from beside you. You tear your eyes from the extremely attractive Hufflepuff and look at Hermione.

"I'm not drooling," you pout. Hermione rolls her eyes and returns to her studies. You force your eyes to stay on the Ancient Ruines essay in front of you, but unsurprisingly, you can't focus.

"Oh, for Merlin's sake, (Y/N), go ask him." Your head whips up, causing your scarf to catch in your earring. You wince and untangle it, aware of two pairs of eyes on you.

Draco and Cedric.

Why Draco has been looking at you for the past couple of weeks, you're not sure. All you can do is avoid him as best you can and hope you don't get called a mudblood for the umpteenth time.

"I can't do that, 'Mione."

"Yes, you can. You get up and walk over, ask to speak to him, and ask him to the Yule Ball. It takes less than five minutes." You hesitate, eyeing her warily. "Please, your lack of concentration on your essay is killing me." You roll your eyes and shove your stuff onto her lap.

"You know what? Fine. I'll do it."

"About time," she mutters, shooing you away. You ignore your pounding heart and walk over to where Cedric is lounging with his friends.

"Hey, uh, Cedric?" Cedric sits up quickly and smiles.

"Hi, (Y/N). How's Ancient Ruines?" You blush, surprised he remembers you ranting about it.

"It's going okay. Can I talk to you for a moment?" He nods and follows you off to the side.

"What's up?"

"I was wondering if you'd like to go to the ball with me?" you ask quietly, looking everywhere but him. After a beat of silence you look up, scared to see the rejection on his face.

Instead, you see regret.

"I would love to, but I'm already going with Cho." Your face falls but you try to hide it.

"Oh, you'll have loads of fun, then!" you exclaim, trying to cover up your self pity. Cedric gives you a half-hearted smile.

"Yeah, I'm sure. I should probably get back..." he trails off, pointing to his friends.

"Oh! Oh, yeah, of course. Sorry to bother you." Cedric shakes his head.

"You aren't bothering me. I'll see you later, (Y/N)." You watch him go, cursing yourself for not asking him sooner.

"See you," you whisper.

"That's sad," a voice rings from behind you. You turn around and barely suppress a groan of annoyance.

"What do you want, Malfoy?" you ask, crossing your arms. His little pureblood posse trails after him like slug slime.

"Oh, I just happened to overhear Diggory's rejection."

"What's it to you, huh? Gonna go spread that around Hogwarts? I'm sure it's already being done," you snap.

"Not in a friendly mood, are we?" he muses.
