══ Chapter 27 ══

It had been a couple of days since she started settling in her new home. Slowly unpacking and organizing when she was home from the office. She hoped she'd get the weekend off, but the call she received at seven that morning held other plans.
She felt strangely energized walking through the glass doors of the BAU. Who knew sleeping in a new place made for the most comfortable sleep?
The coffee in her hand was likely the actual source of her newfound glory, but she wanted to chalk it up to the change. That, and the fact it was the first night in two weeks that she eased into sleep without thinking about the boy genius's embrace.
When she entered the bullpen, Spencer and Emily were sitting at their desks. Both deeply entranced in their own worlds. She dropped her bag by her desk and plopped into her chair, awaiting Hotch's call into the conference room.
"You sleep well?" Emily called from her desk, still hovering her pen over some papers. Lydia spun in her chair to face her.
"I did, actually. Surprisingly, I wasn't up late contemplating all of my life's choices. Like I usually am." The brunette shrugged and took a sip from her coffee cup.
A smile grew on Emily's face. "Speaking of life choices, you liking your new place?"
"I am—oh!" Lydia snapped her fingers. "That reminds me. The housewarming party—that I'm so lovingly being forced into having— is going to be this weekend. So long as this case is open and close. And you are all invited. Including you, Egghead."
She turned toward Spencer who was still focused on his work, but briefly looked up and nodded. His eyes grazing hers before he quickly looked back down at whatever he was doing. She was so focused on him avoiding her gaze that she didn't notice JJ walk in and join the conversation.
"Will Theo be there?" JJ asked, her boots clicking and eyebrows wiggling. Lydia couldn't believe JJ remembered her mentioning of the man during their drunken outing, but she was sure the blonde wouldn't let her live it down since she did.
"Actually, for your information, yes—" Lydia started before Spencer stood up quickly and headed toward the kitchenette. Beelining it for the coffee pot. The rest of them watched it happen and were slightly confused.
But deep down Lydia knew it had to be about that night in JJ's kitchen. She hoped it wasn't that, since rash anger was easier to swallow than whatever the hell was happening between the two of them. Besides, Theo was the last thing they discussed that night before she stalked off to bed. They still hadn't talked about all of it and it was obviously a sensitive topic for both of them.
As to not let the other women's minds wander, like hers was, she quickly quipped something to play it off."Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I mean—we've all seen those eye bags. They might as well be Prada."
