--------------------------------You opened your eyes, squinting against the blinding hospital lights. "Why the hell is it so bright? Am I in heaven?" you wondered, trying to adjust.
As your eyes acclimated to the brightness, you noticed a police officer sitting beside you.
"So, are you Y/N I/N?" he asked.
You nodded in response.
"Can you speak?" he inquired.
You shook your head.
"Alright then," he sighed. "I'm Deputy Riley. I just need to ask you a few questions about what happened last night." He handed you a notebook and a pen. "Can you write down your answers?"
You took the pen and notebook. Deputy Riley continued, "Do you have any idea who the killer could be? Any defining features, voice, face?"
You wrote, "He was wearing a costume and a mask that looked like a ghost, but I did hear his voice."
"So it's a male," Deputy Riley noted, jotting it down.
"How did you hear his voice?" he asked.
You wrote, "He called us."
"What exactly did he say?" he pressed.
You scribbled, "He asked to talk, asked some questions, then threatened to gut us if we hung up. We thought it was a joke, so we hung up."
"And then what happened?"
"He told us to turn on the patio light. When I did, I saw Steve tied to a chair. He then told us to turn off the light and asked Casey some horror trivia. She got a question wrong, so he told us to turn the patio light back on, and we saw Steve was gutted."
Deputy Riley wrote this down. "Did anything else happen?"
"He asked his last question: 'What door am I at?' Casey didn't want to answer, so he broke in through the back door. I got hit in the head and don't remember what happened next."
"Okay, thank you. That's all I needed for now," Deputy Riley said. "We'll be in touch if any new evidence comes up. Thank you again."
He began gathering his things and was about to leave but paused and turned to face you once more. "You know, my sister goes to your school. I can ask her to keep an eye out for you if you'd like."
"No, it's probably fine," you replied. "I have another friend at school."
"Well, if you say so. Be sure to stay safe, alright?" he said before asking if you wanted to go home now or rest a bit longer. You chose to rest for the time being.
As he prepared to leave, you scribbled another question: "Do you know what happened to Casey?"
Dewey hesitated before answering. "Unfortunately, she didn't survive. They found her hanging from a tree..."
You were stunned. Casey had been your first friend, the one who introduced you to her other friends. She was such a kind person—why would anyone want to hurt her?
Tears welled up in your eyes as the reality sank in. You sobbed uncontrollably, unable to comprehend the loss of both Casey and Steve. This wasn't a dream; they were truly gone, and you were the only one who survived.
