----------------------------------"Hey, you new here? I don't think I've seen you in this class before," the girl next to you asked, breaking the silence.
"Oh... uh, yeah. I just transferred," you replied, trying to sound casual.
"Neat. Wanna hang out with me and my boyfriend during lunch?"
You blinked. "I don't think he'd want me there. Sorry."
She waved off your concern. "No way, he loves meeting new people. He's super nice—I'll even give him a heads up first."
"Really? Well... sure. Why not?"
"Don't worry, he and his friends won't bite. I'm Casey, by the way."
"Y/N. Nice to meet you."
A few minutes later, class ended, and Casey asked to see your schedule. Her face lit up. "No way, we've got third period together!"
"Oh... that's cool," you replied, trying to match her energy.
She gave you back your schedule and pointed out how to get to your next class. You parted ways and were once again thrown into the chaotic sea of sweaty students as you navigated your way to Ms. Mar's class for science. One day, you knew you'd witness someone trying to burn their face off by ignoring lab safety, but that day was not today.
The classroom was already filling up when you arrived. You found an empty seat just as the bell rang, signaling the start of class. Ms. Mar began taking attendance.
"Oh, you're the new student," she said, noticing you. "Why don't you come up and introduce yourself?"
Oh, bruh.
With a sigh, you walked to the front of the room, already cringing inside. "Hi, I'm Y/N. And I'd like to go back to my seat now."
A few students snickered, but you ignored them.
"Well, hello, Y/N. I'm Ms. Mar. Please take a seat next to Randy." She scanned the room. "Randy, raise your hand."
A boy in the back lazily raised his hand, and you made your way over, plopping down next to him.
As soon as Ms. Mar turned to the blackboard, Randy leaned over. "Hey, I'm Randy," he whispered.
"Hi," you whispered back.
"I'd introduce myself, but I think you already know my name."
You smirked. "Yeah. So... do you like scary movies?"
He grinned. "They're an underrated art form that deserves more love. What's your favorite scary movie?"
You named your favorite, and his eyes lit up. "Oh yeah, isn't that the one where *insert hot character* gets *insert brutal death*?"
You launched into a full explanation of the plot, the cast, and everything else you loved about the movie. Randy listened intently, nodding along like you were dropping pearls of wisdom.
"Sounds right up my alley," he said. "I'll have to check it out."
You two kept chatting about horror movies until class ended. As you packed up, Randy glanced at your schedule. "Oh sweet, we've got History and Gym together."
"Nice," you said with a smile.
Randy led you to your next class, and after saying your goodbyes, you parted ways.
*Time skip to lunch.*
Casey was waiting outside your class like a whirlwind. She grabbed your hand, yanking you through the bustling crowd of students like a pro. Somehow, you managed to keep up as she expertly navigated through the chaos, leading you outside to a small fountain surrounded by picnic tables.
A group was already there—two guys, two girls, and Randy. Casey plopped down on one of the guys' laps while you stood there, feeling about as awkward as a cat in a dog park.
"Oh right, this is Y/N, the person I told you guys about," Casey said, gesturing toward you.
"Hi," you mumbled, offering a small wave.
Casey grinned and stood up, throwing an arm around your shoulder. "That's Stu," she said, pointing to the guy she'd been sitting on. "He's my boyfriend."
Stu gave you a playful wink.
"That's Billy, and the girl next to him is Sidney. They're together," she added, nodding toward a serious-looking guy and his quiet girlfriend.
"And across from Sidney is Tatum. And you've already met Randy."
Sidney smiled at you. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Y/N."
"Nice to meet you too," you replied, trying not to feel overwhelmed.
The rest of the day went by in a blur, and you somehow managed to avoid Casey, Randy, and the entire lunch crew for the rest of the day. You practically sprinted out of the school when the final bell rang, successfully escaping any more social interactions.
The walk home wasn't far, and as you strolled down the sidewalk, you let out a sigh of relief. First day? Survived.
