The team all sat in the locker room preparing for their first practice of the season.
"I hope we don't skate too hard," Luke whined as he tied up his skates.
"Shut up, Hemmings. Obviously we're gonna skate, we have to get our stamina up somehow," Calum retorted and threw his glove at Luke.
Luke rolled his eyes. "Whatever." He wasn't in the mood for Calum to be mean to him today.
There was a loud knock on the door and everyone exchanged glances before Ashton yelled that they could come in. Normally their coach just walked right in.
"Okay, guys," their coach Lance spoke as he walked into the dressing room. Beside him followed their other coach Dave, the two normally coached the hockey team every second year together. Though Lance hadn't coached this group since he hadn't coached the team in 4 years. Every year they coach together their team did exceptionally well in the season and always went to the finals. "Today we're going to be focusing on building your stamina and getting to work together as a team. The ice is ready so get out there any time." Lance hit the door and they walked out, leaving the boys to finish getting ready.
"Who do you think is going to our assistant coach this year?" Josh asked loudly so anyone could respond to him.
"Hopefully he gets another hot chick to help us," Liam chuckled. Last year their female assistant coach was still in her twenties and all the guys thought she was hot. She was only helping coach since Lance had asked her since he had no other female options.
Ashton rolled his eyes. "Let's be real, she sucked at being an assistant coach though," Ashton didn't like her and neither did he think she was attractive. She didn't know that much about hockey and the stuff she did know was beginner stuff, which didn't impress Ashton at all.
"She wasn't that bad," Michael defended the women.
Ashton rolled his eyes, again. "That's only cause you liked looking at her," he muttered back in response. "I don't care who it is, as long as they're good then I'm fine," Ashton stated, got to his feet and walked out of the room to get onto the ice. Ashton took hockey more seriously than the other guys, it was something he thought he could make a career out of. He loved to play, hell that's why he wanted to do it forever, but he couldn't stand people who didn't put in effort or pretended to know shit they don't.
He noticed their coach talking to Scarlet as she leaned over the bench gate. Ashton crossed his fingers that Scarlet wasn't going to be their coach. He waited until their coach skated away before he skated towards her. Scarlet noticed and she smiled, nodded, and Ashton smiled back with his mouth guard still in his mouth.
"You our assistant coach?" He asked after he took his mouth guard out.
Scarlet smiled but shook her head. "No, I think my dad half asked me if I'd be interested but I'm not really. Why would I want to coach you guys, you all suck," she giggled and Ashton watched her and nodded slowly.
"I'm still better than you," he shrugged.
Scarlet rolled her eyes. "You've never played against me, so how would you know?" She wanted to try out for the team, she wanted to so badly because they didn't have enough for a girls team, but she wasn't allowed. They told her they had enough boys to make a team so they didn't any girls on the team. She had been furious, since Scarlet was better at hockey than most of the guys who made the team and she knew that. She could skate circles around them if she had to, but because she was a girl they wouldn't let her.
"I just know. C'mon I'm Ashton Irwin, I'm better than anyone," he joked with a smirk. Ashton knew he was very good, but he tried not to get too big headed about it. Of course that didn't mean he was never a cocky asshole who believed he ruled the world, because he once let it get to his head for a year. It might've been the best year of his hockey career so far, but he agreed to never let it get to his head again. He learned a lot and he figured out that wasn't the guy he wanted to be.
