"Hey, how are you doing...my names Chuck". A curly dark brown haired little boy that looked around about 12 came up to me I nodded and smiled at him. "Uhm...I don't know how to feel about this place", He kept smiling and nodded while I shook his hand when he introduced himself.

"Come on, I'll show you to your hammock", we walked through the fields of grass and stopped at the hammocks where everyone slept.

Chuck brought some fabric and started tying it on a wooden pole that went up high and over the top a material that covered over top to stop rain getting the hammocks wet.

"It's basically the same story for all of us...", he stopped and took another breath "we wake up in the box...Alby gives us the tour...then here we are". I stared out into the maze walls into the opening, all I could see was darkness. "You're doing better than I did", I got up and walked toward the walls getting curious by the minute.

Chuck came up to me trying to shield me to go any where near the maze. "Hey where do you think your going?", he began with worry churning through his tone "I just want to take a look", Chuck stopped me again, but I kept going "you can look all you want but better not go out their" his voice began to shake as if fear overtook him "why not? What's out there" Chuck shook his head and furrowed his eyebrows "I don't know, I just know what I'm told, and where're not suppose to leave", I kept walking toward the maze walls until people came jogging out. One with blonde hair and light skin, the other with black hair and a brown shade of skin, his hair was standing up perfectly 'looks like he used two whole tubs of hair gel'. "Hey, Chuck, new...girl?", the person jogging stared at me in confusion the other behind him looked shocked, the blonde one kept talking "who's responsible for this one?" Chuck let out a laugh "oh, Newt's in charge of Y/N..." chuck explained while pointing his thumb in my direction. The men left running to hell knows where "I thought we weren't supposed to leave this place?" I said in a more frustrated tone than it needed to be.

He walked in front of me placing a hand on my chest to putting me to an abrupt stop once again "I said we're not allowed to leave. They're different, they're runners. They know more about the maze than anyone". I whipped my head down in his direction gazing in confusion with my eyebrows furrowed "wait what?", "what?" Chuck stared at me with wide eyes "what, you just said maze", his face turned to guilt, looking so horrified to what he just said, "I did?" "Yeah", I breathed out continuing to walk toward the maze "where are you going? What are you doing", Chuck stood in front of me with his arms kept failing to stop my curiosity "I told you, no one leaves, especially not now. It's not safe". I put my arms in front of me reassuring his concerns "ok, alright I'm not gonna go", Chuck gave up in bringing my curiosities to a halt. I continued to stride forward looking inside deeply.

"HEY!" Gally came around pushing me to the ground "we gotta stop meeting like this greenie", tears escaping my eyes as my breath got caught in my throat. I coughed as my lungs struggled to get air I turned around and kicked his chest back and he quickly got up "don't touch me!", I leaned back against elbows "alright, calm! Calm! Calm", Gally blurted as everyone came running towards the commotion. Tears escaping as fear took over, disturbing my tranquillity.

"Take it easy!" a random person shouted towards me with his arms up trying to calm me down. "Just calm down alright", Newt empathized in a demanding way, his face scrunch up with his eyebrows made frown. "Why can't you let me leave!" my tearful eyes looking to Newts frustrated brown eyes. "Why am I here!" I cried yelling at all the boys as they stared at me with sympathy "why won't you tell me what's out there?" my breathes were uneven, as I shook "we're just trying to protect you...It's for your own good", I gestured giving a nod mellowing my anger and frustration.

On the spur of the moment a click came behind, coming from the maze, I jumped falling on the ground. A howl of air blew in my face "what the hell...?", I breathed out muttering under my breath.

The doors kept closing until it came to an abrupt stop...

"Next time I'm going to let you leave" 'Mr eyebrow twat over here spoke with such arrogance, at that moment I wanted to punch his face so hard that he won't even have a face to even be arrogant about.

I just stared at the gate until I felt a warm hand grip my arm tenderly "hey...are you alright?", I looked to my side seeing Newt's brown eyes. A glint in his eyes that put me under a dazing spell. A trance that I felt like I could never escape.

"Welcome to the Glade, Y/N".

Newt got up from his knees and walked off while Chuck stood infront offering a hand so I could get up "thanks Chuck..." I strolled to where my hammock was and sat on it rocking my body back and forth staring in the distance till time caught up.

The sun descending to dusk, brightening the moon above. I overheard cheering, shouting, and laughing. Turning my head to my right, I noticed the Gladers surrounding a teepee of wood with torches.

"Light' em up!", the torches lit the bonfire, as sparks of the fire roamed the atmosphere. I wandered around the bonfire, facing my back towards the fire as it heated the back of my t-shirt, leaning on a chunk of wood. I heard footsteps coming from behind as a figure stepped over the log of wood and lying against the wood for support, with one leg up and his left leg posed straight.

"Hell of a first day, Y/N" I stared into his brown orbs getting lost before I even realized. I faced forward in the distance, sighing while I was at with my arms crossed. "Here... this should put hair on your chest" Newt chuckled, I took the glass and took a long swig of the substance.

Newt stared with a surprised look on his face, and smiled even more "what is that?" I coughed as the drink made a weird sensation down my throat "I don't even know...it's Gally's recipe. A trade secret". I gazed at him with the side of my eye as he stared in my direction as I gave the drink back to him. "He saved your life today..." I whipped my head in his direction getting annoyed by the minute. I crossed my arms and stared into his eyes, turning my head back towards the distance.

"Trust me, the maze is a dangerous place..." my frown deepened looking back at him "how would you know?", Newt glanced at me than back down to his glass of what ever it is. "You see those guys...there by the fire?", Newt continued ignoring my question turning his body facing back to the bonfire toward a group of people "those, are the runners...the guy in the middle there, that's Minho...he's the keeper of the runners". He stopped taking a breath as he gazes straight into my eyes without taking them off my own and I stared right back "every morning when those doors open, they run the maze...mapping it, memorizing it, trying to find a way out". I had so many questions that brimmed my mentality.

"How long have they been looking?", Newt took a deep breath "three years..." I was shocked I couldn't believe after three years they haven't found a way out yet "and you still haven't found anything?", he smiled in my way sarcastically, scoffing before starting another sentence "It's a lot easier said than done...listen, you hear that? It's that maze changing...it changes every night". I stared surprised, shocked, confused. There is so many things that could describe my emotions that uncontrollably took over my body "listen..." Newt lifted his arm a top mine leaving a warm spot where he held so delicately, like he was holding something so fragile and important to him that he was scared even touching it. "The truth is...the runners are the only ones that know what's out their...they're the strongest and the fastest of us all", I leaned closer in his touch shivering in the cold wind "but that's a good thing, because if they don't make It back before those doors close. They're stuck out there for the night..." I felt so deeply in the conversation to the point I could barely even concentrate.

"And no one ever survives a night in the maze..."
