"Tsukasa, do you think we could replicate something like this for our upcoming show?!" The high pitched and very loud voice of Emu ignited. She quickly put her phone up to my face for whatever reason. I read what was on the screen.
It was a show, one similar to ours in theme, using flashing lights reciprocating back and forth. They did that to create a bit of an affect on the audience. I liked the idea, but there definitely wasn't enough time for to be installed.
I sigh, shaking my head at my fellow troupe mate. "Sorry, Emu." I frown, "The show is in less than two days. It'd be a bit of a hassle to add it in. Not to mention that it would be a lot for the audience to focus on." I explain to her, having the tone of disappointment enter my sorrowed voice.
"Aww.. Okay!" Emu looked upset for a moment before returning back to her joyful self. She smiled again. "Hehe!"
I smiled back. She knew how to bring a smile to my face. Effortlessly too. Honestly, I wondered how she did it. How she had the ability to bring countless smiles and grins to her peers. "Does anyone know if Rui will be here?" Nene asks momentarily. She held her hand close to her chest, looking somewhat worried.
I shrug, "He wasn't at school today, so I'm unsure. I tried calling him, but he didn't pick up. I just assumed he skipped school and was asleep or something." I say.
Nene pauses, "He skipped school..?"
I nod. Usually, Rui doesn't skip school. He would, of course, skip the classes as he already knew everything in them. He knew everything because he was really smart and had gone to an advanced school before Kamiyama. He had transferred because apparently he tried to waterboard a student? I'm not exactly sure. That was just what Nene had told me.
"Yeah, he wasn't here earlier." I mutter, "Which is odd because he's typically here. Is he sick maybe?"
Nene shook her head, "If he was, he would have told me." She says.
"Why don't we go double check?!" Emu suggests, smiling still. She didn't seem all that worried like we were. "Rui wouldn't mind if we stopped by, right?"
Both me and Nene give each other a few glances before nodding, "We should. Just in case," I remark.
I grab my bag from off of the ground and swing it over my shoulder. I could hear the sound of my school supplies and folders move in it as I did so. It was an odd sound as the bag was purely leather. A bag most students were obligated to bring. "Ooo-kayy!" Emu cheers, "Let's go!"
She skips off, excitedly. For some reason, she loved visiting Rui's house. I just assumed it was because she liked the stuff he had in his room. Well, room-ish. He basically lived in his parent's garage.
I didn't blame him though. He always worked on his robots and inventions. Doing those things in his own room would definitely disrupt his parents. So, his parents allowed him to use the garage, not really thinking he'd turn it to his own sleeping place. He didn't even have a bed in there. He had a couch, which he used a lot to sleep on. It wasn't at all comfortable. I should know for the countless times I've slept on it myself.
It was made out of jeans, which we often, jokingly, called it a 'jouch'. I didn't know why it was. Rui said as a kid he got bored and just decided to cover the couch in jeans. Cutting and pasting them in like it was a cut & paste worksheet.
But I also knew that wasn't just something he did out of boredom. He likely did it to distract himself from whatever he was going through at the time. He got bullied, a lot as a kid. From elementary to middle school. He was taunted as a 'teacher's pet' for winning dumb contests. He was called a freak for wanting to do shows. Ones with dangerous ideas.
