Whenever I would go to my grandparents house in the country,
You would greet me with a meow.

You would lift you seven toed paw to ask for a treat,
I would pet your back as you ate.

You would chase after mice and squirrels,
Sometimes you caught one and would bring it home.

You would sharpen your claws on trees, drink from the pond,
Sometimes you would join us for a walk through the woods.

You would meow and meow until you were given your dinner,
And you would gobble every morsel up.

You would cuddle up with me on the couch,
Purring as I pet you.

Sometimes you would fall asleep on me,
And I'd have no choice but to sit for hours.

I remember when I first saw you in the back of my grandparents truck,
A patch of fur on your head was missing.

Now new fur grew there,
Now it's your favourite place to be pet.

You were once a stray,
Alone and afraid.

But you became my beloved friend,
I cared for you and you'd be so happy to see me.

But now your sick and dying,
A part of me is dying with you.

You were there for over half my life,
I don't remember what life was like without you.

I wish you could live for longer,
But the life you had was wonderful.

I wouldn't trade you for anything,
But I'd trade anything for you.

I will miss you,
My beloved friend.
