001. - meet me in the woods
When Cassidy opened her eyes, she knew instantly where she was. The woods surrounding her were all too familiar to the nineteen year old girl. She would visit them every single night for as long as she could remember. It was the woods where Cassidy lost Caleb, where Cate sent away their little brother and he never came back.
"Caleb!" Cassidy cried out, frantically searching the woods for the boy. It was the same dream over and over again. She would search the woods for Caleb, and then just as she would find him she would wake up. It was a tortuous hell that she put herself through, but she just needed to find him.
"Caleb!" Cassidy cried out again, tears forming in her eyes. She was running into the woods, just frantically searching for the younger boy.
Finally, she found him - a blurred figure with blonde hair, an outline of a boy she couldn't quite remember. His face eluded her, a ghost in her memories, a phantom she yearned to reclaim.
"Caleb, it's me, it's Cassidy," She slowly started to approach the boy, not wanting to scare him away from her. "Please come back home with me," she said as the tears started to slowly trickle down her face. Just as she was about to reach his shoulder, his hand grabbed her forearm tightly. She started to wince from the pain. This has never happened before, not that Cassidy could remember.
"Caleb, please let me go, you're hurting me," Cassidy cried out, trying to get out of the strangely strong grip of the little boy. She tried to use her powers to calm him down, but he had no aura, nothing for the girl to link with.
"You need to find his Cassidy," an eerily familiar voice whispered out before Caleb pushed Cassidy away. Cassidy fell with her back hitting the cold dirt from the ground.
"Find who? I'm already trying to find you!" Cassidy cried out, confused on what the boy could be talking about. Ever since Cassidy enrolled in God U, she has been spending every minute not occupied with school trying to find Caleb. She couldn't tell Cate about this, she feared what the older girl would do, how she would react to this. She would probably push Cassidy to forget about it, and not waste her time.
"Him, you need to find him," the voice said again, this time it was echoing all around her. It felt like it was coming from every single direction, but Caleb was right in front of her. He slowly lifted his arm up and pointed his finger at something behind her. Cassidy turned around to see another hazy figure, this one feeling slightly more familiar, like the girl has seen him before. She could make out his dirty blonde curls, but that was it.
"Please Cassidy, meet me in the woods," another voice said, this one sounding familiar, but Cassidy couldn't remember how. She can't remember ever hearing this voice before, but it just sounded like she's heard it so many times before. The taller figure started to approach Cassidy and she quickly got up from her spot on the ground and started to back away from the boy. "Please Cassidy, come save me," he said again, this time begging.
"I-I'm sorry, I don't know how," Cassidy pleaded out, noticing the other boy was quickly walking towards her. Cassidy turned around and started running deeper into the woods. She quickly turned her head and saw that both boys were now chasing her into the woods. The older boy was slowly catching up to the frantic girl.
Suddenly Cassidy tripped on a branch laying out on the ground, her body hit the hard soil with a thud. She turned, panic in her eyes, as the stranger loomed over her. Cassidy let out a high pitched scream and the next thing she knew was she was in her bed. Her body drenched in sweat and her eyes red and sore from crying.
She was so glad she didn't have a roommate. No one wanted to room with Cassidy nor Cate due to their abilities. They didn't want someone to make their way into their minds. The rumors about the two girls were nasty, but Luke and Andre did whatever they could to make them disappear.
One time, during Cassidy's freshman year, this boy made this really nasty rumor about Cassidy, and then Luke heard about it and the next thing she knew was Luke was beating the fuck out of the other boy.
Luke would always tell Cassidy that he would do anything for the younger girl, that she was the sister he always wanted. At first Cassidy didn't really think he meant it, she thought he was just saying that because he was dating Cate. However, time after time Luke proved it to be true.
She quickly looked at her alarm clock, and saw that it was 2pm. "Fuck," she muttered before quickly getting out of bed. She was supposed to meet Cate at the training fields at 2. She looked at herself in her full body mirror. Her blonde hair was arrayed haphazardly on her head and the bags under her eyes were the darkest she's ever noticed. Cassidy got the perfect amount of sleep, but it was her nightmares that gave her the bags under her eyes.
She swiftly grabbed her brush and went to work on her blonde hair. Once she was done with that she applied some quick makeup so Cate wouldn't look at her with worry.
"Cassidy Elizabeth Dunlap, you have 5 minutes to let me in your room or I'm going without you," Cate's high pitched voice yelled coming from the other side of Cassidy's door.
"Jeez, sorry Cate, give me a second!" Cassidy yelled back as she changed into a white plain long sleeve and Levi shorts. Cassidy walked over and unlocked her door and let Cate in. The older girl wrapped her arms around the younger sister.
"Did you have the dream again Cass?" The older girl whispered, not wanting to poke the younger girl. Cate knew about the dreams ever since they were younger. She could hear Cassidy's cries throughout the night at their parents. Cate offered to take them away for her, but Cassidy always refused. She thought if she didn't have the constant reminder, then she wouldn't be able to find the boy.
"Yeah but um, it's okay it wasn't as bad as it usually is," the younger girl lied, slowly letting go of her older sister and grabbing her bag. "C'mon Cate, we should go. It's a big day for Luke isn't it?" Cassidy asked, making her way out of the dorm room. The entire walk to the training field was silent, neither of them wanting to press on the issue anymore. For some reason, Cassidy didn't tell Cate about the other boy. She wanted to keep this a secret for herself.
A/N: Hi, thank you so much for reading the first chapter of 'The Other Dunlap Girl', I'm so excited for writing this and I have so many ideas. I do want to apologize for my writing skills, I used to write all the time when I was in High School and slowly fell out of it. I'm an English Major now so I really wanted to get back into creative writing. So I'm sorry if the first few chapters are just awful, but I hope you guys enjoy
