Surrendering to Desire: An enemies to lovers story

Chapter 1

BOTH POV:

It was the first day of school. Athen had been dreading it all summer long. He knew he'd blow through the year easy peasy. However, he wasn't expecting him. By the 3rd week, when everyone had gotten comfortable, Athen and his classmate Karl began to talk to each other more. Always bickering but something about it never felt mean.
"I am gonna call the KKK on you!" whispered Karl loudly.
"Well then i'm gonna get you deported!" Athen barked back.
Everyone around them thought their conversations were a little goofy due to the immaturity and slight racism of the whole thing. A couple weeks later things started to change. Karl began to get more... up close with him. Whether it was lightly hitting him or just getting closer. Athens face would explode with redness. He had come out to his parents as gay a couple months ago, but hadn't come out at school yet. Karl was from Germany, he's here on a foreign exchange program, and had come out as bisexual to his parents and school 2 years ago. Neither of them knew about the other of course.

KARL POV:

It's my first time in America. I decided to take a year away from home after my girlfriend cheated on me with my best friend. I was excited to see what the Americans had to say about history. The second I walked in we locked eyes. Only for a moment but I felt something just in that short period, I felt so close to him. I broke eye contact first because i don't want to get too roped in. As the weeks went on we became sort of enemies. He had no idea I was in love with him, so i figured being a little mean was a good way to hide it.

ATHEN POV:

I thought this school year would be like any other. I figured i'd fly through my classes with ease, as usual, and only focus on school this year and not boys. Then next thing I know a German boy started being racist towards me, out of nowhere! I hated him. He was always hitting me and yet whenever he got to close it made my stomach erupt in butterflies. I think it's because i'm new to the whole gay thing but one thing i for sure know is that I despise Karl.
