*Somewhere in Chicago Streets
Aria May Gunderson has never felt at ease in Erudite. While she enjoyed learning, there was a part of her that felt suffocated, yearning for more than books and theories. The thought of the test and the Choosing Ceremony kept her up at night.
May formed an instant connection with Beatrice Prior after meeting her during an inter-faction school exchange program. Beatrice, with her Abnegation roots, exhibited selflessness that piqued May's interest. They spent time discussing their factions, worries, and hopes. May was very interested in the serum-induced test, and Beatrice expressed her concerns about fitting in and choosing the appropriate group.
Beatrice turned to May one evening as they sat on the brink of the abyss in the Dauntless compound and murmured, "What if we don't fit in one faction? What if we belong to more?"
May gazed at her, realizing the significance of Beatrice's remarks. "Are you saying you feel... Divergent?" Beatrice asked, nodding.
Aria May exhaled deeply, "I've always felt different, like I don't fit the mold Erudite set for me. Maybe... maybe I'm Divergent too."
The revelation was a dangerous one. Being Divergent was considered a threat in their society. They were unpredictable and didn't fit into a single category, which meant they could undermine the very fabric of their faction system. The girls knew they had to be careful.
They set off on a quest of self-discovery, confronting societal biases and finding dark secrets about the leadership's plans. They formed relationships with other Divergents and even some Factionless along the way, laying the groundwork for a rebellion against a system that sought to define them.
Through their hardships and tribulations, Beatrice and May discovered that it was their decisions, not the factions, that defined them. And they opted to fight for a society in which people could be themselves without fear of persecution.
And that is where the tale unfolds.
