My Fandom One-Shots(PJO, IT, HP, ST, MHA)

Youth

This is a short story I wrote. It isn't from any series, the characters and story line are mine.

"Chris!" I called, jogging to catch up to my friend. He spun around to the sound of his name, a smile that could light up an entire town dancing on his lips. "Hey! What's up?" The others, hearing the commotion turned back to us all of them sporting smiles of their own. It was the last week of summer, all of us having just graduated high school months before. We all knew this was our last day together before we separated for college, having hung out all day, going to our favorite places, trying to savor the time we had left. Now the sun began to set on the all to familiar roads, that we had walked so many times before and now for the last time.

We walked in mild silence, nothing but our footsteps and light small talk here and there. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence but one of acknowledgement. We knew where our lives were going to take us but we ignored it, wanting to save this moment we had together, wishing it would last forever.

Hope was the one to say something. "This is it guys, our last day. We all have to leave tomorrow. It's crazy... it went by so fast." She said slowly thinking about every word before they were spoken. She was right. We weren't kids any more, we were going off to school in different states, some of us halfway across the country.

Brain got a scholarship to a prestigious college on the coast, due to him having the best grades highest test scores and the highest test scores our grade(but we'd never tell him that, his ego is big enough already). Megan's going to a fashion school in a large city in the south having it been a passion of her's since we were little. Hope and Harper are both studying music but in different places but they said they would try and form a band together after college. Russell got a sports scholarship to play football up north. Chris isn't even going to college and is going to spend the school year traveling the country(though I didn't know how how he planned to pay for it) and I personally didn't know what I wanted to do but going to college has always been my plan and my parents had been saving up since I was born, so I was.

We continued to walk, silence filling the air yet again. This can't be how it ends. We had been friends all our lives. We had done everything together; we were family. "Hey... remember the one time we found that trail in the woods while riding our bikes home after school and we made that bike ramp and Harper went flying into a tree?" Megan mumbled.

I recalled the memory. It was years ago but I still smiled at the thought of his busted bike, scraped and bloody legs hanging off Russell's bike as he drove him home, Brian yelling at him for his stupidity and the rest of us laughing, the whole way. "Yeah, and remember the face he made after he hit the tree and was trying to get up but he was so dizzy he fell down," Chris chuckled and Hope laughed. "He looked like he lost his last brain cells," she joked.

"Hey! I was hurt, what did you expect?" Harper protested, waving his hands in the air. I giggled, along with the others. Well minus Brian. "Well maybe if you weren't such an idiot and used the freaking brakes you wouldn't have been!" he shouted. Despite his angry demeanor, we all knew he wasn't actually mad, it was just Brian being Brian.

I laughed harder at this, followed by Hope and Megan's endless fits of giggles, Chris and Russell's howls of laughter, and Harper's whines of protest at Brian's growling empty threats at us all. And for that moment, everything was normal again, like nothing had changed.

The rest of the walk was filled with laughter, yelling and joking. It was like we were kids again, dumb, loud, crazy kids who wanted to never grow up, never get old and never be apart. We'll all leave for college tomorrow, and we don't have a lot of time left, but just for now, let's pretend we have eternity.
