Day Seven, First Moon, Hunting Year Five Hundred and Four
Fever set in overnight. My heart keeps thumping too loud, too fast, and all the sweat is giving me the chills. Mama says it's because I owed penance. I think it's the result of getting punished. My heart jumps too much anytime I eat all that salt. I'm not allowed to eat real food until tomorrow, but I couldn't anyway. I can't get past the sour taste of sick in my mouth. Mama says I'll live. She had to go through this when she was my age. I asked her what she did to earn punishment, but she wouldn't tell me -- keeps acting like her generation never did anything wrong. I know that's a lie. Maybe she should eat some salt.

Michael snuck me a few bites of potato from his dinner tonight. That was thoughtful of him, so I ate it even though it made my stomach turn. I guess he can be sweet like that on occasion. I usually forget on account of him being a pain the rest of the time. Hopefully, I'll keep it down.

Addendum: I didn't keep the potato down, because of course not. Curses. Now, Mama knows I ate something because you can't hide it if your leftovers come back up again. Now, she is filling my room up with wards because she's afraid the witches will come to collect me before my penance is up.
