the night goes, stars rest

Plick, plick, plick.

The drumming sound of the rain against Melt's umbrella echoed in his ears. Due to the heavy rain, the park was completely empty, leaving Melt to his own thoughts as he made his way back home.

Ever since Tokyo Blade, his acting career had bloomed with success. Of course, the shadows of his failures on Sweet Today remained. And his acting was nowhere near as good as his peers— in fact, Melt couldn't help but be convinced he was still being casted merely for his looks.

Nonetheless, his growth became more and more evident with each performance, and the internet slowly seemed to forgive his failures. Perhaps die hard fans of Sweet Today would never forgive him for ruining the adaptation of their manga with his horrid, careless acting, but Melt had hope in his heart he could build a new name for himself.

All because of Aqua.

Aqua, who he had not seen in months.

He missed the man more than he expected. He missed their days of rehearsals. Back when Aqua, who seemed so cold and distant, would help Melt improve his silly excuse of acting. Never getting mad, never shouting at Melt like he deserved— Aqua was a much more gentle person than he seemed.

Then again, was it not Aqua who helped Melt go through this path?

Was it not Aqua who woke him up from the never ending nightmare he wasn't even aware he was trapped in?

So each time Melt acted, he couldn't help but think of Aqua. Even in the role he played last, only a minor character with about three scenes, he thought of Aqua. Thought of how he would act the scene, the advice he would give to Melt. It was almost embarrassing how much Melt thought of him— someone he truly idolized.

Plick, plick, plick.

The rain falls heavier than before, causing Melt to panic. His house was still a five minute walk away, and while Melt's distaste for the rain was not as strong as it used to be, he wasn't fond of standing outside during a storm. Even with his umbrella, he could get sick. Melt hated getting sick.

He planned to run his way back, but cut short after seeing a flash of familiar blonde hair.

"Aqua? No, it couldn't be—" Melt thought to himself as he turned to the man on the bench.

His head was down, his hands covering his face, with a cute kitten umbrella abandoned on the floor, doing very little to protect him from the rain. But sure enough, it was Aqua.

"Aqua?"

Melt brought his umbrella over Aqua's head. Aqua didn't react to Melt's voice— hell, he didn't even seem to notice that the raindrops had stopped beating on his face. He remained in his curled up position, with his hands covering those beautiful eyes that Melt had longed to see for months.

Melt pressed his lips together. He knew Aqua had struggles of his own. Everyone in the Tokyo Blade cast was aware, whispering among themselves as Aqua's eyebags grew heavier each day, along with a face far too pale for a healthy man.

Melt, drawn by Aqua's eyes that carried galaxies and stars, knew all too well of the caliginous, haunting feeling they carried. They were an ocean, and the more Melt swam, the colder and darker it became.

And Melt knew there was far more Aqua was hiding— horrors he probably couldn't even imagine.

So really, Melt wasn't too surprised to see Aqua like this. Deep inside, he expected to see Aqua break down sooner or later.

Even so, Melt's chest bubbled with feelings of worry. The urge to reach out, and help Aqua the same way Aqua did to him.

He could do that, couldn't he?
