Melt was a failure.
He had always known this fact— for as long as he lived, even. Back when he covered himself in glory and fame, he had always known the truth.
It wasn't until after Sweet Today that Melt had stopped running away from reality, and accepted the truth.
Back then, he foolishly thought that even if he let others down, it wouldn't matter as long as he still had his pretty face. Because as long as he was beautiful, Melt would always be loved.
Love was all that Melt ever wanted.
It was thanks to Aqua that he woke up. To think that a short performance, only lasting five minutes, could change Melt's life. He couldn't understand how Aqua acted with such beauty and perfection; he had a power that drew everyone's attention to him.
Including Melt, who couldn't seem to get out of Aqua's spell.
He assumed he would be over Aqua the next day. But when he woke up, he found that his mind was still full of Aqua. Same for the next morning, and the morning after that.
After a week had passed, Melt realized he would never escape Aqua. He longed for more of his acting.
So like that, Melt threw himself into the world of theatre, knowing full well that many of the people there hated him.
The manga of Sweet Today was well known, as well as the live adaptation's failures.
And when it came to Sweet Today's failures, Melt was the star right on the front cover.
Melt had signed out of all of his social media accounts, unable to take the hate comments. He focused on his acting lessons instead. He needed to work to be loved, he always told himself. The media would love him again when he put on a show that was worthy of love.
Tokyo Blade would be that show, Melt knew.
He had spent months preparing, and he shared a stage with Aqua again.
Aqua, who improved Melt's acting by just being near him. Aqua, who shined so bright on the stage. And Melt, who would do anything to see that light again, even if it meant rehearsing until he couldn't move anymore.
Rehearsals for Melt fell apart once the script changed. But he refused to quit. Melt would break several of his bones before giving up on this role. Before giving up on seeing Aqua act again.
The day of the first dress rehearsal arrived quickly, and Melt's hands shook with nervousness. Dress rehearsals were a week before the real show, and they made the whole rehearsal feel more real.
After all, whatever they showed in the dress rehearsal would likely be what the audience sees in the real show.
Melt was anything but prepared. He practiced one scene again and again, but it had yet reached the level Melt wanted it to be. What if he didn't make it in time?
Such worrying thoughts left Melt stuck in the changing room, staring at his own reflection on the mirror.
He had changed into his costume a while ago, but he had yet to apply his stage makeup. Because, as much as Melt hated to admit it, he had no clue how to apply on stage makeup.
Everyone else in the cast seemed to know what they were doing. Akane, and a few other cast members had some professionals help them, as they had heavy makeup on. But Melt, who merely had basic stage makeup on, was left to figure it out on his own.
He fiddled with his costume nervously as he waited. He was wasting time sitting around, but what could Melt do? Would he admit that he had no clue how to put on stage makeup, and be mocked by the cast? Did Melt even need makeup? Maybe he could sneak by the rehearsal without putting any on...
