"I... I need you!" Aziraphale begged Crowley to come with him. Surely, he knows how much danger they were in? For once in his life, there was a way to protect them, and the existence they've carved out for themselves forever.

"I don't think you understand what I'm offering you." The words flew out of his mouth without thinking, and right there he knew he was grasping for the chance of convincing Crowley to come one last time.

"I understand. I think I understand a lot better than you do."

"Well... then there's nothing more to say." Come with me. I can protect you.

"Listen."

"Do you hear that?"

He tried listening to whatever Crowley wanted him to, glancing ever so slightly at where Crowley was pointing, but all he could hear was the loud silence, their words echoing through his shop, the comfort and warmth replaced by a cold bitter feeling. "I don't hear anything."

"That's the point."

"No nightingales."

Aziraphale could hear a heart breaking, unsure whose it was. Maybe it was his, maybe it was both of theirs.

"You idiot." He heard Crowley's voice crack, knowing it hurt him just the same, whatever they had, it was special, and they both knew. "We could've been... us."

Aziraphale couldn't hold back his tears any more. He turned around, he could no longer face Crowley. He was afraid that if he did, he would stay here, forever running away and what's worse is that he wanted it so so badly.

Suddenly, he was grabbed by his lapels, and Aziraphale did not know what to do. As if there was a melody like the first time Aziraphale fell in love, surrounded by countless stars and galaxies as a wing protected him from shooting stars, Crowley kissed him ever so briefly, but it felt like it took forever. All Aziraphale could do was to flail around, trying to hold Crowley, trying to make sense of what was happening.

The kiss broke, and Aziraphale didn't know how to feel. He tried to find the right words to say, but only broken sobs had come out.

"I—"

I don't understand.

I'm confused.

I love you.

Do it again.

"I forgive you." Aziraphale managed to say.

"Don't bother," Crowley replied, turning around, and leaving the shop.

Aziraphale tried to compose himself, trying to wrap his head around, trying to steady the overflowing emotions he was feeling. He touched his lips, his lips that had been against Crowley a moment before, still not knowing how to feel about it.

Maybe they were like Jupiter, their love wasn't simply big enough. Maybe in some other universe, they would brightly shine as a big burning star, instead of their silent unspoken words, always aware of the target behind their back to say out loud.

Maybe in another universe, another place, another time, you would hear the faint sound of nightingales, but in this universe, none sang that day.
