Fate hasn't been merciful for her today.
The icy, sharp, vigorous wind of winter waves past her dark hair as she jogged between the bustling crowds of Seoul streets. "Sorry!" She yelled after stumbling upon a few suited men
Grey dark clouds possessed the skies above, lurking the last sweetness of sunlight. Those who were sorely waiting for the subway called out cabs but for her, Lisa didn't stand a chance to do so.
Fate was cruel so far.
"I hate you, God." Cursing under her breath she blamed the wicked weather and her luck. Not only was she 39 minutes late for her interview but there was no transport she'd afford.
"Why does it always have to be Me?" she looked up at the clouded heaven and grumbled." I don't like it when you love me so much," running to the fourth block near the building. 'Almost there!', she encourages.
She had equipped everything to clarify her reason for being late. She won't let this chance slip; she needs this job. Her bills are still due and she can't ask her parents to pay. They're in enough debt.
Like the light in the darkness, she finally got into the office. People hustled inside with classy elegance. She didn't waste her time and went to the woman who was the receptionist. The woman only gave her a worried smile and told her to go to the HR department.
She nodded and hurried toward the crowded elevator. Some other girls that she assumed to be employees were gossiping about someone named Jennie Kim.
Lisa knew that name; she did her little research about the youngest daughter of the Kim Family and the soon-to-be future CEO of the KimTech Media & Industries, but sadly, she couldn't find any photos of that woman on social media or Wikipedia; strange she must be. Fortunately, Lisa won't have to greet her. The way those girls were saying how evil this Jennie Kim-named woman was made her feel a tiny bit bad for others.
They had to deal with a Satan every day, but not you, Lisa.
'Stay away from trouble'. She told herself.
Clutching her backpack close to her chest she alarmed her senses. Be confident. You can do it. Taking a deep breath she went out and pushed the door of the HR department.
The man, who was probably in her mid-thirties, tilted his head as he glanced at her resume. "Miss Lalisa Manobal, you were fifty minutes late; the interview has already been done. Sorry."
He gave it back to Lisa. She was on the verge of crying. She hasn't eaten anything since last night except the cup noodles from Rosé. Her apartment was far away from this office. She had to take the subway but because of the mocking weather it was late she couldn't even catch her bus and now this.
"Please, Sir, you saw my academics. I did my best in every subject. I'm a very fast learner. I'll do anything. I need this job. Any work I'll do."
Even the cleaning if you pay- she wanted to add. She may sound desperate, but after getting way much rejection after graduating with a diploma in Business Administration, her dream of landing a reputed job and lifting the financial burden off her father's shoulders-one he took on just so she could attend a qualified college- only seemed to be childish.
The man tapped his fingers. "Well," he started. "The interview is done, the place is given to someone else."
Lisa sighed. "I understand. Thank you." She began to stand up. Maybe Rosé was right; serving drinks in the Pub can only help now.
