Jennie Kim wasn’t in the office yet, and Lisa had a long day ahead. Determined to get through it without losing her mind, she was left to manage everything on her own. As the assistant, she knew her boss expected excellence for being resourceful, looming over every detail, for now, she had the freedom to make decisions until The Dragon Lady made her grand entrance—then the pressure would be back in full force.

The interviews were scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM, and she decided to host them In the refined no frills consultation room just down the hall from Jennie’s office. With its modern décor, the room felt cold and intimidating—perfect for the occasion.

Finding a woman who matched the mentioned specifications had been easier than expected. After sending out the interview invitations she received an overwhelming number of positive responses. Apparently, everyone was eager for a chance to meet the elusive Jennie Kim, or perhaps just to be part of her world, no matter how brief.

Even during breakfast that morning, Rosé couldn’t resist chiming in, saying, “Finding someone willing to say ‘I do’ isn’t the hard part. It’s your boss who’s the real problem. Will she accept someone who’s just in it for the money?”

Lisa sighed, conceding the logic. This wasn’t about someone willing to marry Jennie Kim. It was about finding someone that a woman would want to keep around in her life.

Sharp at nine o’clock, she arrived at the office, ready to take on the day. Before the stack of interviews began, she had to reschedule a few meetings, finalize a presentation, and review financial reports from the accounting team.

Around 10:00 AM, she was in the elevator heading down to the consultation room, setting it up with her laptop and laying out the candidates’ resumes. Hopefully, the atmosphere would be welcoming for everyone. Lisa had never done this before. She didn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable.

Sunrays bathed through the window behind her filtering on the small oak table. She stole a quick look at her phone. No massage from her boss which was an unusual relief. Whether it’s a sign of trust Or Jennie Kim being occupied with other things. Either way, Lisa was alone in this.

By 10:55 AM, she was seated, tapping her fingers lightly on the table as she reviewed the first applicant’s profile. As much as she wanted to stay professional she couldn’t help but think about the irony—Jennie Kim had tasked her with finding a suitable match, yet Lisa herself seemed to fit the bill in so many ways.

With the clock ticking over to 11:00 AM, the first interviewee walked in, and Lisa immediately sensed that this was going to be… challenging.

The woman was well-dressed, confident, and—at least 50 years old. Not that age mattered, but Lisa could already imagine her boss’s expression. This was doomed from the start. She smiled broadly. “Good morning. So excited to be here.”

Lisa plastered on her best professional nod. “Thank you for coming. Shall we start?”

“Oh, before we do,” the woman leaned in, eyes gleaming with enthusiasm, “I’ve to tell you about my last relationship. What a rollercoaster. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve been through at my age—breakups come with a story, and mine, well…” She took a deep breath. “Let’s just say it involved a motorcycle, a trip to Spain, and—oh! A mistaken identity!”

Is she high? Lisa blinked. “That sounds... eventful.”

It only got worse from there. The woman launched into a long-winded monologue about her colorful love life, recounting every ex, every bad breakup, every wild escapade, every dramatic twist and turn. Lisa could feel herself slipping into an abyss of awkwardness. The woman had stories like a never-ending for days, and none of them were remotely appropriate for this setting. There’s no way she could put this in words.
