The sound of people's feet scattering away could be heard through the island streets as Maleficent and the Knuckleheads appeared behind the five kids. A woman pushing a baby in a stroller walks past them, and Mal steals the candy from the baby. She turned around to see her mother. "Hi, mom." She greeted her with a smile.
"Stealing candy Mal?" Maleficent asked with a dissatisfied tone. "I'm so disappointed."
"It was from a baby," Mal informed her with a slight smile. She could see her mother's slight frown turn into a wicked smile.
"That's my nasty little girl," Maleficent spoke proudly. Mal gave her the lollipop and the woman spat on it and put it under her underarm, giving it to the Kucklehead afterward. "Give it back to the dreadful creature."
Mal looked at the lollipop in disgust. "Mom..."
"It's the deeds, Mal, that make the difference between mean and truly evil! When I was your age I was cursing entire kingdoms!" The mother went on, and Mal mouthed the words as she said them. She had heard this speech so much she could recite it from the back of her hand.
"You, walk with me," She took Mal and began to walk away from her friends. "See, I'm just--just trying to teach you the thing that really counts...how to be me."
Mal sighed and nodded. "I know that, and I'll do better."
"Oh, there's news!" She exclaimed. "You five have been chosen to go to a different school...in Auradon."
After hearing the news her friends Evie, Jay, Carlos, and Casin tried to run away, but to no avail since Maleficent's minions stopped them. They hated the idea. "What? I'm not going to some boarding school filled to the brim with prissy pink princesses!"
"And perfect princes," Evie added, sounding dreamy. Once she noticed Mal looking at her, her attitude changed. "ugh."
"I read somewhere that they allow dogs in Auradon. Mom said that they're rabid pack animals who eat boys who don't behave." Carlos said, frightened. As he was speaking, Jay crept behind him. "Woof!" Jay shouted. Carlos jumped and then hit him for scaring him.
"I know one thing, I'm not going," Casin stated. "We don't need to be over there."
"Yeah Mom," Mal agreed. "We're not going."
"Oh, you're thinking small, pumpkin. It's all about world domination." Maleficent yelled out for the Knuckleheads. "Mal," she sang, and the group of five began to follow her to the palace.
------
"You will go. You will find fairy godmother and you will bring back the magic wand." She told them, filing her nails in the process. "Easy peasy."
"What's in it for us?" Mal asked.
Maleficent shrugged. "Matching thrones, hers-and-hers crowns..."
"Uh, I think she meant us," Carlos spoke, gesturing to all of them.
Maleficent motioned Mal for her to come forward. "It's all about you and me. Do you enjoy watching innocent people suffer?"
"Well yeah, I mean, who doesn't--"
"Then get me that wand!" She interrupted. "Then you and I can see all that and so much more. And with that wand and my scepter, I will be able to bond both good and evil to my will!"
"Our will!" The Evil Queen corrected.
"Our will, our will. If you refuse, you're grounded for the rest of your life, missy."
"What? Mom--" Mal tried to debate with her, but she was silenced. Maleficent stared at her, her eyes glowing green. Mal's did the same, but she soon surrendered. "Fine, whatever."
"I win." Maleficent smiled.
Maleficent had to argue with Evil Queen, Jaafar, Curella, and Dr. Facilier after they came up with reasons they should not go. They were irrelevant to her. As the parents were giving things their child needed before they left, she almost forgot one of the most important things: her spellbook.
Evil Queen helped her get the safe open, and she gave the spell book to Mal. Soon, the parents were saying their goodbyes. Casin was the last person to get in the limousine. "Dad, I really don't want to go. I mean, can't you just think about it for a second?"
"I did think about it, and I made my decision. You think about it, Casin. Once Maleficent gets that wand, we'll be powerful. " He took something from his jacket and gave it to Casin. "This will be useful to you."
He looked at the piece of paper with various writings on it. "What is this?"
"You'll know. Go and help your friends get that wand, and my friends will help you." Dr. Facilier watched Casin pick up his bag and get into the limousine. It soon started to drive away and you could barely see in the distance.
Minutes into the car ride, Jay noticed the numerous types of candies set up. Jay and Carlos looked at each other before fighting for the candy, making a mess. While Evie pulled out a brush and blush. "You look a little washed out, let me help you out."
Mal made a face and moved away. "Ew, stop, I'm plotting."
"Well, It's not very attractive," Evie spoke, taking a bite out of the candy.
Mal found a remote and pressed a button on it which brought down the partition. Evie looked behind her and saw that there was no bridge, and it looked like they were going to drive and fall into the water. "Look!"
"It's a trap!" Carlos yelled. They all began to yell and huddle close together until a golden road appeared right under the car as it drove over the sea. The screams ceased and they looked out the windows in relief. "What just happened?" Carlos inquired.
"It must be magic," Evie added.
Mal turned around and got the attention of the driver, hitting the remote against the car. "Hey, did this little button just open up the magic barrier?"
"No," he held up a gold remote. "This button opens the magic barrier. That one opens my garage. And this one," The partition began to roll back up, ending the conversation.
Mal turned back around. "Nasty. I like that guy."
They finally reached the other side of the bridge, and sooner or later, they found themselves passing by the sign of Auradon prep.
