It has been a week since my talk with Priya. My girl from earlier still hasn't talked to anyone. We cared less about her these days. Grace and I have become close but not as close as she and Ann. Ann has been up to something lately and Grace seemed to be into it too. Ann and I only talk when Grace is there. We don't really get along alone. I remember the time Grace left us alone at the balcony of the library which is our new hangout. We stayed silent for an hour without a word. Luckily I was reading a book or else I would have left out of boredom.
I sometimes feel left out when Grace and Ann are talking. Ann seems to be, no, is more current than I am of the things of the world. I am quite jealous of Ann. Her hair, her skin colour, her bravery and her rebellion was really outstanding. Ann had gotten three strikes in one week.
Strikes where given when rules were disobeyed. Ann had broken a few of them without care in the world.Mother, the highest Nun in the building was said to be scary, which she was. Her looks alone could make a new born baby cry and funny enough, some new born babies have their eyes shut for a while after being born. She was as pale as snow. Her nose was big long and curved. She did look like a witch. Although she rarely showed her face, her aura was quite scary. I wouldn't like to cross paths with her.
Right now I was at the library balcony. Ann and Grace were inside doing their 'research' and I was alone reading. I looked across the vast land. It's like you could see the whole area from here. Some Sisters where on the field playing tag, other where knitting, the over zealous ones where at the church praying and engaging in constant fasting to no ends. The Sisters with that character were all rude and behaved like my girl from earlier. I am not surprised that she's one of them. This wasn't a school were being over zealous would earn you more grades. This is a more of a training ground.
According to what I was able to put together, this place gets inhabited once every decade. It is said that Mother Mary gifts the eternally pure in heart the ability to see visions and predict the future. We are said to be fifty called each decade. The call is placed the day you are born and unless you have an untimely death, nothing can stop you from answering it.
The divine gift does not grant you protection. If said correctly, it makes you prone to death. According to Sister Lily, she said the devil wants us dead and that's why attacks on us are frequent. I remember our orientation day. It was five days ago......
It was morning and it was not like yesterday. Today felt different, it felt, alive. There were rushing and stomping sounds. It was like when I woke up in the church dorm. The church was close to the market place so it was always noisy in the mornings. I am quite surprised, for a place with little population there was a lot of noise.
Mary, Grace and Nadiya were at the window staring at the commotion down below. I went to see too. My girl from earlier was no where to be found, my only guess was either she went for the morning mass or she was in the bathroom.
Down below, I saw all sorts of van and a few luxury cars. I was amazed. I even thought it was time to go back home. Maybe the training had been cancelled this year, I thought." What do you think this is?" Mary asked.
" It's time for our orientation." Grace answered.
" How do you know that?"Before Grace could answer, Sister Lily burst into the room. I could have sworn she had makeup on her face. It was so spotless and her lips was full of color and so were her cheeks.
" Are you all not ready?!!" Sister Lily screamed at the top of her voice. No sooner had she said that, my girl from earlier walked out the bathroom well dressed in a white top and black long apron gown.
' owwe, so that's what that dress was for'
She really made the rest of us look like fools, like always. I'm not surprised. Classic her.
