Even after having that talk with Jiwoong and Matthew, Gyuvin still wasn't prepared for the aftermath of his friends leaving.

All of them dropped the couple off at the airport, where many tears were shed. Matthew made them promise to call them if there was any update on Ricky, and they would immediately fly back to Korea.

Gyuvin felt like his life was getting emptier and emptier. He continued with his usual schedule of visiting Ricky every day. His friends made sure to pay attention to Gyuvin's well-being in case he ever fainted again.

Hanbin and opted not to sign up for therapy. Hanbin knew Gyuvin didn't want to go through therapy again. He hated it. He hated having to talk to strangers for hours and not being able to see Ricky.

Gyuvin promised Hanbin that he was okay as long as he could see Ricky. And thus, Gyuvin took his cat to see Ricky every day again.

He found strawberry to be very comforting. Gyuvin's cat provided him with peace and comfort. If Strawberry had never stumbled into his life, he was sure he wouldn't have made it this far.

When Gyuvin broke down in his kitchen, Strawberry was there to curl up with him. When Gyuvin needed to rant about life, Strawberry was there to listen. When Gyuvin thought about leaving the earth, he remembered that he had to be there for Strawberry.

It made it even worse that it was now December, which meant Christmas was coming up. It also meant families and friends were getting together and giving each other love and gifts.

Gyuvin's original plan was to spend Christmas in the hospital with Ricky, but his friends encouraged him to join them for Christmas dinner. Jiwoong and Matthew were going to fly back too, and it would be like old times.

Gyuvin told Taerae that he'd be joining them for dinner but would still go visit Ricky in the morning.

Christmas used to be Gyuvin's favourite holiday, and now it was the holiday he dreaded the most.

Why? Because of Ricky.

Ricky and Gyuvin always spent Christmas together. Ricky would help Gyuvin decorate his Christmas tree, and they would spend their evenings baking sugar cookies with Mariah Carey in the background.

But nonetheless, Gyuvin still bought Ricky presents for Christmas each year.

On Christmas or Ricky's birthday, Gyuvin made sure to buy Ricky a present, and in the corner of Ricky's hospital room, all his presents were tucked into the corner.

Gyuvin hoped that if Ricky ever woke up, he would be able to open the presents and see Gyuvin's appearance. That's what kept me going—hope.

This year, he decided to buy Ricky a ring. Not just a regular fancy ring, a special ring. It had Ricky's birthstone in it and Gyuvin's initials engraved on the inside.

Gyuvin bought himself a matching one with his birthstone and Ricky's initials engraved. It was something he put much thought into and was really proud of the idea.

December 25th

Today was the day. Christmas.

Gyuvin walked outside with Strawberry hugged tightly to his chest, feeling the soft snow fall to the ground. It looked like something out of a movie.

Snow was falling from the sky—not too much where Gyuvin couldn't be outside for more than five minutes, but enough to make it look like someone shook a snow globe.

It was truly beautiful.

He checked his pockets to make sure he brought the gift with him, and once he felt the cube box in his pockets, he started walking.

"Are you ready to see all the other things later, strawberry?" Gyuvin cooed.

Gyuvin and his cat were attached at the hip at this point. No matter where Gyuvin went, Strawberry would be right next to him.

Gyuvin huffed, sweeping away the snow on his bangs. "You think Ricky will like my gift? I think I outdid myself this year."

Gyuvin always had a habit of talking to himself, but having a companion just made it even worse.

Gyuvin walked into the familiar hospital and stopped to greet the nurse, who always checked on Ricky.

"Merry Christmas, Jia!"

She smiled. "Merry Christmas, Gyuvin! I'm surprised you didn't come with your other friends; they just left."

Nurse Jia seemed to be in high spirits today. It wasn't that odd, but Gyuvin didn't think she'd be very happy to be working Christmas Day.

"Oh? Who came?"

Jia looked puzzled for a moment, trying to recall the boys. "Ah, I'm not too familiar with them, but there were four of them! Three of them had black hair, and one of them had reddish brownish hair."

Even though he knew his friends very well, he needed a bit more information than that.

"A bit more detail, Jia?"

"Right! sorry! Two of them seemed to be a couple, and the other two seemed very young. One of the young ones was actually very intimidating."

Right. With that information, Gyuvin guessed. Zhanghao, Hanbin, Gunwook, and Yujin. Gyuvin found it kind of weird that they didn't call him to go all together, but Gyuvin liked spending one-on-one time with Ricky, so he didn't care.

"I see, thanks. Any updates?"

Jia flipped through her clipboard. "Ricky's condition has been improving; in fact, he's doing great. We took one of the IVs out of him; things look good."

Even that was like a present for Gyuvin. Knowing Ricky was slowly getting better was good enough for Gyuvin.

"Well, that's it! Merry Christmas, Gyuvin. See you tomorrow." Jia was interrupted by a coworker yelling at her in the hall.

"Well, I think I've got to go. The patient in 3-C is very...high maintenance, to say the least."

Gyuvin slightly bowed before entering Ricky's room.

The room was quiet apart from the beeps of the machine, and Ricky was hooked up too, although he noted that quite a few had been removed in the past couple of days.

Gyuvin was too tired to put in his jolliest smile. "Merry Christmas, Ricky!"

"Strawberry says Merry Christmas too! Look, I got you a gift!"

Gyuvin put the box in Ricky's hand and closed it.

"I'll ruin the surprise, but it's matching rings! For whenever you wake up, we can match! Cute right?"

Gyuvin really tried to keep his jolly act going, but it was hard. It was hard knowing that all of this was his fault. It was going to be three years soon.

"I'm heading over to Hao and Hanbin hyungs house for dinner later! Jiwoong and Matthew are coming back too! I'm planning to take Strawberry to meet all of our friends for the first time. I wish you would be there, though."

Gyuvin spent another 2 hours there before deciding it was time to head to Zhanghao and Hanbin's place.

Although there was a tiny decorative Christmas tree in Ricky's room with the rest of Gyuvin's presents over the years, Gyuvin left the tiny ring box on the nightstand, directly next to Ricky's bed.

"Merry Christmas, love!" Gyuvins blew a kiss before walking out.

Gyuvin always had a warmth in his voice when talking to Ricky, and it was something he always tried to keep even if Ricky was in the hospital.

The group was sitting in the living room playing random board games they had lying around. They were waiting for Jiwoong and Matthew to arrive.

Strawberry had finally met all of Gyuvin's friends, and they welcomed him with warm hearts and lots of pets.

Hao Hyung, who was waiting for the couple to come so they could open presents, was starting to get agitated.

"Where are they? They said they'd arrive a half hour ago!"

Hanbin whispered something into his ear, which made him go back to sit quietly.

"I just want to open presents already! Is their flight delayed or something?" Yujin asked, basically clawing at the gift.

And with that, Matthew burst through the door first. "I'm here~!"

Matthew stumbled into the living room, arms full of presents that were almost blocking his sight.

"Where's Jiwoong hyung?" Gyuvin questioned.

"Oh, he's grabbing your present from the car!" Matthew said.

Gyuvin found Matthew's speech pattern odd. It was out of the ordinary and even sounded rehearsed.

"So, should we start with presents?" Hanbin said, gesturing them to the living room.

After a couple exchanges and light catching up, they all sat on the couch, but Jiwoong had yet to come in. Gyuvin noticed Hanbin seemed weird. m too.

Hanbin seemed jittery and overly excited. Gyuvin understood it was Christmas, so it was reasonable, but his friends were acting weird today.

"Jiwoong texted me; he's here! Close your eyes, Gyuvin! We'll open your gift first!" Matthew said, excitedly running off.

"No peeking, Hyung!" Yujin said, putting his hands over Gyuvin's eyes to make sure he couldn't see.

Now, this was definitely weird. It was like all his friends were hiding something from him. He got kinda nervous since the last time he was blindfolded by his friends, they threw him down a hill because it was "funny".

Gyuvin heard footsteps, and his friends were trying to shush each other. Then the foot steps stopped right in front of him.

He felt a pair of delicate, familiar hands hold his hands. Too familiar.
