Chapter 2

12 years later...

A loud knock was heard from Allie's room followed by an angry shout.

"ALLIANA! BUKSAN MO 'TONG PINTO!" Allie's step mom shouted from outside.

This woke up Allie from her deep slumber. She immediately stood up and opened her door. Her mom immediately went in and grabbed Allie's chin.

"ASAAN NA 'YUNG PERA KO?!" Her step mom said as she held Allie's chin tighter.

"Mom... h-hindi ko po alam 'yung sinasabi mo" Allie replied, scared because of her mom's anger.

"Anong hindi mo alam?! Nakita ka ng tito mo na pumasok sa kwarto namin! And then all of a sudden, nawala na 'yung pera ko?!" Allie's step mom accused her. Allie saw Robert, her step mom's boyfriend, leaning on her door frame.

"Mommy, I swear, wala po talaga akong kinukuha..." Allie pleaded as she tried to escape her mother's grip.

"Honey! Halughugin mo 'yung cabinet ng batang 'to!" Her step mom announced, replacing her hold from Allie's chin to both of her arms.

"MOMMY, PLEASE PO. WALA PO TALAGA AKONG KINUKUHA, KAHIT HALUGHUGIN NIYO PA 'YUNG MGA GAMIT KO!" Allie said as she's trying to get out of her mom's hold.

Robert continued to look all over the room. Allie escaped her mother's grip and faced her. Her eyes filled with betrayal and rage.

"Mommy, paniwalaan niyo naman po ako, I would never do that. It pains me knowing that I am the first one you suspect when things like this happens." Allie stated weakly.

At this point, her whole room was trashed. Allie looked at it in defeat. Her senses came back when Robert spoke.

"Sinungaling talaga 'yang batang 'yan, ano pala 'to?" Robert stated as he held up an envelope filled with money. It was Allie's money from working part time jobs. Her eyes grew large as she saw what he's holding.

"PERA KO 'YAN, PINAGHIRAPAN KO 'YAN!" Allie shouted as she tried to go to him. She was stopped by a strong grip on her arm.

"Kita mo na?! Wala ka talagang kwentang bata ka!" Her step mom said that triggered something inside of Allie.

"LAGI NAMAN 'DI BA, MOMMY? AKO 'YUNG WALANG KWENTA, BOBO, AT HINDI MO GUSTONG ANAK! SIMULA NANG MAWALA SI DADDY, PARANG WALA NA LANG DIN AKO SA BAHAY NA 'TO, KASI NGA WALA NAMAN AKONG KWENTA SA INYO. ALAM MO MOM, SANA HINDI NA LANG SI DADDY 'YUNG NAWALA, SANA IKAW NA LANG!" Allie shouted back at her mom.

She felt a pang of pain on her left cheek.

"You ungrateful, bitch! Kung 'yan ang tingin mo sa'kin, lumayas ka na sa pamamahay ko!" Her step mom replied as anger rushed through her veins.

Allie held her cheek in shock as it was the first time her step mom had laid a hand on her. She didn't say anything and just silently went to get her bag and pack some clothes. She left their home without looking back.

She silently walked without knowing where she'll go. Tears started streaming down as she felt the cold air hitting her skin. After crying her heart out. She continued to walk.

"Allie!" A familiar voice called. Allie immediately wiped her tears and fixed herself before turning to look at the person who called her.

"Mave!" Allie replied, faking a smile for her bestfriend.

Mave's smile faded as she got closer to where Allie is.

"Umiyak ka ba?" Mave asked softly.

"Huh? Hindi ah! Napuwing lang ako!" Allie replied sounding energetic.

"Bato na siguro nakapuwing sa'yo, mugtong mugto na mga mata mo eh" Mave said. Trying to light up the mood. Allie chuckled slightly.

Without saying anything, Mave closed the distance between them and wrapped both of her arms around the other girl.

There it is again. The familiar warmth that only Allie can feel whenever she's in Mave's arms.

"It's okay, we don't have to talk about it. Do you want some cream bread?" Mave said as she slowly brush her fingers on Allie's hair. She knows Allie loves it when her hair is being played like this.

"Uhum" Allie replied. Her face buried on the crook of Mave's neck.

A few moments later...

"Allie, kapag inenglish mo 'yung sabaw tsaka kanin, magugulat ka." Mave said that made Allie confuse.

"Huh? Bakit?" Allie replied as she took a bite of her cream bread.

"Kasi, SOUP RICE! Oh 'di ba, nakakagulat?" Mave answered as she laughed. 

Instead of laughing, Allie smiled as she stared at her. Her eyes that is nowhere to be found when she smiles or laughs hard. Her nose that scrunches up when she finds something amusing. And her mouth that shows her cute fangs when she smiles widely. Allie adored Mave so much. 

'Daddy, thank you for sending me this angel in front of me. Because of her, life is worth living again.' Allie thought to herself.

Allie came back to reality when she felt a hand on the side of her lips.

"Ang kalat naman kumain..." Mave said as she wiped the remnants of the cream bread Allie is eating.

Allie's eyes widened as she realized how close Mave's face is from hers. Mave stared at Allie's eyes and then back to her lips. 

'Are we about to kiss?' Allie thought.

She closed her eyes, anticipating soft lips crashing into hers. A few seconds had passed and she felt nothing. When she opened her eyes. Mave is staring at the sky.

"It's almost 6 pm na pala, we better get home. Hatid na kita!" Mave said as she stood up and offered her hand to the other girl.

Allie looked at her. Her eyes are once again in the verge of crying. Mave noticed this and immediately knew.

"You wanna have a sleepover tonight?" Mave asked that made Allie nod in excitement.

After their sleepover, Allie explained what happened with her and her mom. Mave was enraged and she almost went to Allie's house to talk to the other girl's mom. Allie stopped her and told her that they should just let them be.

They ended their night watching movies until both of them fell asleep.

Allie wished that this day would never end.
