Chapter 9

"My duty is to my heart"

"Do you think this is a good idea?" Vic asked Albus. She was currently in the Headmaster's Office, discussing whether she should tell the truth or not, She hadn't changed her outfit yet as she straight floo to Dumbledore's office.

"It will not be good to hide it. You should tell Selena about it before she learns it from someone else" Albus advices. "Can you please call her here?" Vic asked.

"I think you should tell her the truth in a place where no one can interrupt you. You should head down stairs to the Great Hall. She will be coming back from Hogsmeade." Albus told Vic. She just nodded in response and headed towards The Great Hall.

In between her journey, She bumped into James Potter. "Vic" he gasped. Victoria looked at him in the eye and just walked away. But James followed after her. "Vic.. Victoria!" He called. "Please listen to me" He said. "No, Thank You" she replied and walked away.

Selena just got back from Hogsmeade and was talking to Theo, Zena and Taylor about it when she saw her mother. "Mum!" She exclaimed and hugged her. "What are you doi- What happened?" Selena asked when she noticed her mother's bloodshot eyes. "We should talk somewhere private" Vic said, glancing at James who was staring at the mother daughter duo. Selena followed her gaze and nodded.

The duo went near the black lake and sat on the ground. "What happened Mum? What are you doing here?" Selena asked. "Honey, I- Your father visited me in our house today" Vic replied. "What? Why?" Selena asked feeling angry that her so called father was responsible for her Mum's condition.

"He- Let me explain from the starting, The day I and your father had the argument." Selena just nodded at her mother's sentence, wanting her to continue.

"It was the night of 4th October 1979. Me and Sirius were going to get married in 3 months. I was ecstatic about it but only three months prior, on 13th June, I got to know that I was pregnant. Sirius' birthday was approaching so I decided that I will tell him about it on his birthday only, as a birthday gift. But on 4th of October, I went in our living, me and Sirius moved in together after we graduated, we lived in brixton in London, it was very busy but I loved the city so we decided that area." A lone tear escaped Vic's eyes which Selena wiped with her thumb

"I was not sure about it but he persuaded me, he could be very persuasive you know." Vic let out a painful laugh as she remembered the moments she spent with her fiance.

"Yeah back on topic- I went in our living room to take my chocolate when I saw that Sirius was sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. I went and sat near him and asked what happened and what he next said destroyed my world, right then and there. He said- he said" Vic broke into sobs and Selena tried to comfort her. Sel was feeling helpless as she couldn't do anything to comfort her mother. Vic wiped her tears and continued

"He asked if- if I was cheating on him with- with Seb" Selena gasped. "I shouted at him like how could he think like that and we fought and then I went to our room and packed my clothes and I- I left from there" Vic's vision got blurry as she was trying really hard to be strong for her daughter.

"Where- where did you go?" Selena asked as she tried to control her own tears. "I couldn't go to Lily's or Vera's or Marlene and Dorcas's, as I didn't had strength to answer their questions so I went to Leaky Cauldron and stayed there for 2 days. I wallowed in self pity thinking I was wrong but after that I decided to confront the world. I had to be strong for me and for you so I went far from everyone and lived with dad. After you were born, I took care of you then I started my job in St. Mungo's. I didn't contact Lily, Vera, Marlene and Dorcas along with James, Remus and Peter as they didn't even try to contact me. I thought they- they were my friends but- I guess I was wrong" Vic let out another painful laugh, It broke Selena's heart.

"And today I was waiting for Seb for our movie marathon when Sirius came over, He apologised and asked whether you were his child or not. I told him the truth and he begged to come back in our lives but I denied. You know I waited for him to come back till you started going to Hogwarts but he never came back. He didn't came back, He didn't" Vic started crying so Selena hugged her tightly.

"And in between Seb came in for the marathon and after seeing Sirius there he quietly left. But Sirius, he accused me again" Victoria mumbled without breaking the hug. " He said that what he said 14 years ago was right that I and Seb are dating and if he came back he will be in our way" Vic said after pulling away.

"He better not come in front of me because he won't be alive then and I don't care if I am going to Azkaban" Selena said, outraged.

"How dare he accuse my mum and make her cry, he won't be able walk properly if I ever see him because he won't have legs for that" Selena's statement made Vic laugh and she stood up and said

"Listen Sweetheart, he will try to contact you now but don't be persuaded by him, Listen to your heart do what your heart says because-" "-My duty is to my heart" Selena replied. "I love you dear" Vic hugged Sel tightly and she replied "I love you too mum"

"I'm sorry I made you miss your feast dear" Vic said. "Don't worry mum, Taylor will bring me some in our dorm" Selena reassured.

"You should go now" Selena nodded and went to her dorm. Vic looked back at Hogwarts with tears in her eyes remembering her time here, the time she spent with Sirius, her friends. She quickly composed herself and left towards Albus's office.

After the both girl's departure, James came out of his hiding spot. He made his way back to the castle as only sentence roamed in his mind 'I thought they- they were my friends but- I guess I was wrong'.
