Alpha Zane slowly opened his eyes, blinking as he took in his surroundings. He was in his bedroom and he could feel the warmth of a mug of coffee being pressed into his hands. He turned his head and saw his Beta, Knox, hovering beside him.

"How long was I out for?" Zane asked, his voice raspy from sleep.

"A couple of hours," Knox replied. "You had me so worried but I'm glad to see you awake and safe. How are you feeling now?"

Zane took a moment to assess himself. "Tired," he finally replied then ran his hand through his black hair in frustration. "What did I do this time?"

"You almost killed a woman"

"What do you mean I almost killed a woman?" he asked, his voice now shaking slightly.

One of the symptoms. He rarely remembers what he does when he explodes.

It was even terrifying to think of the possibility that without his Beta's intervention, he could have done something he would have regretted for the rest of his life.

"I don't know what's wrong with me" Zane said, his voice full of anguish "I don't even remember" he winced then his eyes widened "Hope the doctor stays quiet?" the previous doctor had betrayed them before the change in doctor.

"Don't worry, I've taken steps to ensure that this new doctor knows his duty is to treat and not to gossip" the beta said, his tone serious. He paused after, his eyes meeting Zane's with sincerity. "This is a sensitive matter, I know that. Trust me"

Zane nodded, his expression softening as he felt a weight lifting from his shoulders but still... "Right now, I need to forget I'm a monster. What's my schedule for today?"

Instead of reading out the schedule, Knox piped in "You are not a monster"

"Cos you alone adore me"

"Hm" Knox shook his head "You marked today as your stake out to find the spy but aside that, your family sent in an invitation. Your cousin and his wife are throwing a baby shower at the family house"

"You know what to do to that invite" Zane said drily.

Things like this come out with an obvious message. They are seeking for more ways to ridicule him and he has no time for such people. His cousin clearly harbors a huge hatred for him. Not that Zane cares but him stepping there as a guest would only seep out rumours.

Instead of attending the baby shower, which he was not really needed for, Zane had an important duty to focus on. Disguised as a human, he would fish out the traitor who had been letting rogues into the human land.

The human land and the werewolf land were divided by a mystical boundary and only the Alpha (since his pack was clearly the king of packs) had the key to the portal that crossed it. He had stationed men there to protect the humans but one of them or more had turned a traitor, putting the humans' lives in danger. It was up to him to identify the culprit and put a stop to this threat. Though, he really needs this distraction.

Nevertheless, the people rarely saw the Alpha's face, so, it would be easier for him to disguise himself and go unnoticed.

And since knox was not only his beta but also his trusted confidant and friend, he knew that he could rely on him to watch over the pack while he was away. He knew that Knox would keep his absence a secret, ensuring that everything ran smoothly in his absence.

As the Alpha gazed at himself in the mirror, he couldn't help but feel that he looked too much like a human to pass for one of his own kind. He adjusted the strange outfit unlike the Alpha robe he was used to wearing, trying to make it look more natural. It was a little bit funny, but he knew it was important to maintain his cover. He couldn't risk exposing himself, especially when there was so much at stake.
