|Chapter 19|

"Chapter 19: Shattered Echoes: A Night of Unraveling"

I woke up the following morning feeling emptiness besides. I sighed I have grown accustomed to at-least knowing I'd see him later. The aroma bacon flowed through out the house I knew my mother was cooking breakfast. I left my room and followed the scent into the kitchen and dining room area.

I saw her at the stove and sanaa sitting on the counter talking "good morning" I said smiling, Sanaa looked up and smile "morning sis you sleep well I know it's not as fancy as you gotten used too" my sister said jokingly.

I grabbed the stole that was by the fridge and pulled it up to the counter "I slept just fine you know that right" I said laughing.  My mother said good morning and continued the conversation with my sister as she finished cooking. I chimed in every once in awhile but my mind was replaying the messages I heard last night.

Once she was finished cooking she fixed me and my sister plates and passed them to us. My sister dug into her plate while I just played over mine, my mom noticed and asked me if everything was alright. I sighed "has Darren shown up since I've be gone" I asked. It was silent, my sister stopped eating and my mother didn't say anything.

"Well ?" I asked "yes" Sanaa said "Sanaa" my mother fussed "what might as well tell her..." Sanaa turned to me "he showed up a month and some change after you left demanding you come outside, that's when I finally told him you left and he got mad and left" she said going back to her food.

Fuck. I can't believe the audacity of this man. I said nothing and continued eating. My sister hopped of the counter "I'm gonna go get ready" she said. Me and my mother sat in quietness as we continued eating " I didn't want you to worry about him" she said breaking the silence

"It is what it is Ma, it can't be helped, I don't even really care" I quietly chuckle and then I got up and threw my plate away "I'm gonna go get ready I'm going with Nae to her practice" I said "alright well I have to work night shift tonight, I'll make y'all something to eat for when y'all get back"

I nodded my head and got prepared for the day, my hair was looking a mess, I decided  to deal with it sometime this week while I'm home. I took some gel and slicked it back in a bun and threw on some loose fitting jeans and plain black tee with my black keds.

"You ready" I heard my sister calling from the living room "yes" I said calling out to her. I put on some lip gloss and grabbed my purse and walked out the room. Me and my sister said good bye to our mother and headed towards the bus station to go to Sanaa practice.

As we walked to the station we talked about what's been going on recently with her, school and sports. As we waited on the bus a man came and approached us "Amahle is that you" he asked "uhh...yeah...how can I help you" I asked cautiously "oh shit you don't remember me" he asked

"No, no I don't" I said, he shook his head and laughed "it's me Russell Darren cousin" he said. Shit, this couldn't get any worse. Luckily the bus pulled up not too long after he said that "well we have to get going I said" and me and Sanaa booked it upstairs on the bus.

"So what you gonna do about that" Sanaa asked, I shrugged "nothing I'm not planning on seeing Darren at all while I'm here" I said. The rest of the bus ride was silent until we pulled up to our stop.

Once there Sanaa booked it to the school gymnasium, with me chasing after her. After catching my breath I entered through my old school Landry High-school gymnasium. I smiled it's been a while since I've been here. So much has changed and happened since I've graduated.

I was pulled from thoughts as I heard someone calling my name "Dayi is that you" I heard, I turned to the person calling my name and to my surprise it was my high school best friend Mozella. She ran up and gave me a hug.
